I'm curious as to whether or not it would be a good idea to create an inventory of who has Miller tool sets or partial sets and under what circumstances folks might be willing to loan tools on or off site. I know GDE rents the timing tools but they apparently don't have some of the other tools that are needed from time to time such as the rather expensive injector puller.

For example I have the Miller 4 box set plus the injector flow test bottles and the Lisle pneumatic fan removal tool and am willing to loan them for on-site/local work. Under the right set of circumstances and urgent/critical need I might be willing to consider a longer distance loan.

Feel free to PM or email me if you don't want to post in the clear at this very preliminary stage of something that may go nowhere.

I have the 4 box set in Savannah, on-site use is available, or I would be willing to discuss traveling with them to your work site. I don't see myself renting them long distance however.

I have the 4 box set in Northern CO. No renting it out, for use on site only. Bring cash, beer, or your 18 YO daughter.

I have the complete 4 box set, I would be willing to rent out any tools needed,to offset the purchase price, I know how hard it is to find some of these tools. I would hope there wouldn't be any problems getting them back for long distance rentals. I tried several timed to get GDE's tools but there was a long list each time, which is why i made the purchase. Let me know what you need and where you are.

I rented the "green diesel" tools and have been waiting a month to get them.
They told me 5 weeks.

In the mean time I fabricated a set good enough to start the job.
The cam timing pins I made from a 10x1 mm spark plug with porcelain removed
and a steel pin threaded in its place.

made cam gear lock tool with other substitute parts.

made belt tension tool with steel bar and pins.

used allen wrench in fly wheel

I'll let them out on the following conditions.

I have the 4 suitcases of CRD miller tools and the fan removal tool.

I am in the northeast tristate area, NY, NJ, CT am willing to rent them out.

Hand to hand tranfer only with actual cash replacement value as a deposit/retainer plus $75.00 per box of tools.

If I have to drop them off, then you pay for whatever the round trip fuel cost is and my time. I'm very reasonable.

Tools must be returned the way they were received and presently they are brand new ... you break you buy.

I cherish all my tools and those are my conditions.

I've been waiting 8 weeks for them. Keith at GDE said there was an individual that kept them for 6 weeks after he took the engine apart and realized he needed new rocker arms too, so that has screwed everyone down the list from him.

Anyone in the Seattle area have a set?! My CRD has been sitting disassembled since the last week in July...

I'd be interested in seeing a picture of your home made cam gear locking tool. I've already made a set of cam pins from some M10x1 bolts on the lathe.

Mine are loaned on the basis of the tool cost +$200 for my trouble if I do not get in back, so the cost of each tool +$200 for any amount of tools needed, western union or cash only. You will be refunded in full upon return in same condition. Any shipping is extra, borrower pays both ways.

Middle GA area:
I have the cam alignment pins, flywheel pin, belt tensioner tool, and a homemade cam gear holder.
Will loan/rent face to face with a deposit. Local areas only, no long distance rental.
Non-return of any or breakage, you loose the deposit.
You will be refunded deposit upon return in same condition.

Want to own the tools?, you can purchase the Sealey VSE5056 Diesel Engine Timing Kit online for a little over 100. (eBay or amazon) It contains everything except the cam gear holding tool which you can either make one or buy the Universal Sprocket Buster Counterhold Tool, most say it works just fine if used properly.

Ah, you're not using VM1085, that's how you can afford to do that and not lose your heiny.

Correct that's a $500+ tool, as we all know, and no one wants to pay that much for a deposit. The Gates tool does the job, it's a nice tool ($160 on its own).

When I did the timing belt I used a Sealey brand tool similar to the Gates brand tool. It did flex a little under the 80 ft-pnds torque. I used an individual sprocket holder (such as metal nerd tool) in conjunction with the Sealey brand cam gear holder to keep anything from moving.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using any tool that works, I was just shocked that he was renting them with only a $200 deposit, but then I saw it wasn't the VM.1085 and thought "smart man."
