Hi and Thanks Turbo diesel Freak...... and thanks for your responce. Apologies, I have terrible sight, can't drive anymore and haff to fix this for my Wife.....

The Fumoto site suggests a size for the CRD

http://www.ezoildrain.com/

Does there size fit a lightly worn down Thread on the oil sump?...... or do I have to drill the Oil sump for bigger Fumoto??

Thanks if u can quickly define that Q for me...... appreciated

The size suggested by the web site you posted here probably lists the oil valve for the CRD engine using the O.E. thread specifications.

If the threads in the drain plug hole are damaged, the only really safe thing to do is to drill and ream the hole out to completely remove the damaged threads, and then cut new threads that would match a larger fumoto oil valve to fit the larger hole.

You will have to make that determination for yourself; even sending a photo in cases like this is not as good as actually being there in person to make observations.

I am sending you a PM.

Best regards,

I have stripped drain thread and I saw someone advice about Fumoto drain valve and it is working. I tighten it lightly with weld epoxy and no leak so far. Make sure that all threads are digressed

What is the thread of the original drain plug?

My neighbor tapped M16x1.5 but the plug would not go in. Had to buy a M16x1.5plug. Is the plug actually 5/8 × 18?

They are almost the exact same size:

But is the thread pitch a tiny different? The OEM plug - which looked new - would not go, but the M16 x 1.5 threaded right in.
When I checked diameter on the plug, it measured a tiny over 16 mm.

Sorry guys, I’m a little confused here. I’ve never drilled and tapped a drain pan, and sure don’t want to mess up. But my threads are stripped.

I have ordered the Fumoto 104S. Are we in agreement that I should drill it out with a 41/64 bit, then tap it with an 18-1.5? Or is it a 16.5 mm drill bit, or are they the same?

My buddy suggested in the aluminum pan I might not need to drill at all, just push the tap through the old hole?

Thanks.

See this thread, lots of info on oil drain plug issues.

The OEM is not an 18mm plug, it is smaller.

And yes, I would NOT drill the aluminum oil pan, if you can get a tap to start, work it in slowly going back and forth a little at a time.
On mine, I simply tapped the pan with a NPT (pipe thread) tap which are tapered, then installed a pipe thread bushing with JB Weld and screwed a smaller pipe thread plug into it with teflon tape on the threads. Been that way for years now and works just fine with no leaks. I simply remove the pipe plug out of the bushing to drain oil.

Well, it seemed to go quite well. I did not have to drill the hole, just worked the tap into it like WWDiesel said. Cut nice looking threads into the pan and the Fumoto screwed right in. Seems secure, though I haven’t driven it very far.

Thanks for all the advice.

If anybody is thinking of getting a Fumoto, they are 15% off till 2/21. Put in PDAY23 for the discount code. If your order is over $50 shipping is free.

I just got one for my Wrangler and one for my wife’s Subaru.

Had the same issue with my dealer oil change quick lube stripping the plug. Drilled it out to 18 mm, tapped the hole and put in a new plug. They stripped it again.
After some discussion, they have accepted responsibilty for this. Pan has been removed and sent out to a certified aluminum weld shop to weld in a new threaded bung. The are many different aluminum weld in bungs you can get. Lots are for adding a threaded coupling into an aluminum holding tank. Some are raceing car parts. Here are just a few links to check out.
