Recall form came in the mail yesterday for the lower rear control arm replacement on my CRD made April 2005.
Nothing yet for the one made July 2005.
Now to find a dealer that I can trust :juggle:

At least that part appears to be common to all KJ's not just the CRD so dealers should know it well.

Yes, and I know that there are some good mechanics out there. It's just that, I have done all of my own service to my jeeps for so long (30 years), that I don't want other hands touching them.

You'd think so.

I'm just back from having mine done.

Are they using special control arms for this recall? They were supposed to be done last week but when I went to pick the Jeep up they told me that they couldn't do it because when the tech went to install the new parts he noticed that they'd been sent two left arms instead of a left and a right.

Seems kind of strange considering the parts fiche shows both sides with the exact same part number (52088682AB).

They are interchangeable. I think the originals had some small difference between LH and RH that was designed out in later revs. Tell 'em to install them.

I put Crown control arms in last years and they have failed already, < 20,000 miles. The car handles like you're riding on jello

I never got a recall notice either

Only applied to "THESE VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 3, 2003 THROUGH JUNE 29, 2007. THE RECALL ADDRESSES THOSE VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN, CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA". Seemed at the time a rather stupid limitation as it exempts all KJs that fit the year bracket but which might be moved to a listed state after the 2012 date of the recall. It's pretty obvious that such vehicles might experience the rust problem; but it's the NHTSA that picked the limitation.

It says currently registered, so youd be good. I think its funny that here in Omaha where they salt the roads, this recall doesnt apply. You can still get it covered though if you call the "whaaa" line.

Oh, P.S. There is no right or left on these arms, so somebody dropped a ball somewhere.

Is there a drop dead date on these safety recalls? My local dealer sent me a final notice to have this recall performed.

Don't know. I had a reminder recently to have my hitch inspected but nothing on the control arms. I just got them done now because they needed replaced.
