How do I correctly diagnosis that the motor mounts are making the rattling noise I am hearing from the engine bay? I managed to get underneath the truck and managed to hear it slightly. when I push against the tranny/motor from the drivers side toward the passenger side and the noise stopped. How do I properly diag this

I've seen posts about getting clunks or clangs going into reverse, or turning tightly. After driving around with mine broken for about 20K miles my engine settled to the point where the oil pan would hit the cross member on bumps. The only way I was able to tell for certain was by taking them out of the vehicle and shaking them. The broken pieces can be heard/felt shaking around inside. I replaced both thinking I'd save the old one if either was good and both of mine ended up being broken.

Here's a thread with some additional ideas on diagnosis: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=57017&p=642361&hilit=mount#p642361

If you have any suspicions at all that it might be your engine mounts, just change them out. Relatively easy and inexpensive. Doing so solved my problem immediately, and I realized that I had been hearing them jangle for the previous 10k miles. My issue sounded identical to the one you're having.

Good luck.
