I am going to change my fuel filter and was looking for directions or a step by step video. Anyone know of one? thanks

1. Loosen 2 strap clamps holding 2 - 3/8" black fuel hoses attached to the fuel head and move clamps away and to the top of the head. If you let the straps drop down the hose toward the engine, you'll have a diffcult time re-capturing them.

2. Using a small plier lightly squeeze around the black rubber hoses attached to the metal tubes and move them from side to side to free them so that they can be removed easily by hand. Sometimes the hoses become stuck to the metal tubes and need a little force to get them unstuck.

3. Remove hoses and temporarily plug them with clean tight fitting bolts or whatever clean plug you can find that will prevent fuel from leaking out. Remove strap clamps from top of filter and save them for later re-use.

4. Grab the fuel filter and turn it one quarter turn or until it freely spins away from the head but do not remove it yet because the electrical connector is still attached at the bottom. The purpose for doing this was to make it easier to remove the filter later.

4. Remove the 2 - 13mm nuts holding the fuel head to the bracket on the fire wall and put them aside.

5. Detach the fuel head from the bracket. Reach down below the filter with your other hand to feel for the electrical water sensor connector and squeeze the clip to detach it, pull down and away to get it off.

6. Now fully unscrew the fuel filter from the head and drain the fuel into an empty container to be disposed of properly, following local laws. Do not re-use the fuel, it is full of the bad stuff that the filter had been trapping for months.

7. Turn filter upside down and unscrew the black plastic water sensor from the filter so that it can be reused and installed into the new filter.

8. Very important. Check under the fuel head at the bottom of the threaded arbor to make sure that the old small round rubber washer that was part of the old fuel filter isn't still in its place stuck on the bottom. Remove it and discard it if it is still there becsue it will cause air in fuel leaks. You may need a small needle nose plier to grab and remove it and becasue it is the same color (black) as the fuel head, it will be difficult to see, you will need to feel for it.

9. Reverse procedure to install the new filter

Excellent instructions to which I would add only 1 thing. When removing the hoses don't try to pull them off as they will just grab tighter; use the flat edge of a screwdriver or some such and push them off or at least get them started that way.

I have never gone through that much trouble replacing the fuel filter, I just crawl underneath and stick arm up through opening and spin it right off. I may spill a few drops of fuel by nothing major. Can have the old on off and new one on in less than 5 minutes, just don't forget to remove old gasket and replace with new and off course bleed air out using hand pump while loosening bleed port. Getting the sensor wire off of the bottom of canister might be a little challenge the first time until you get used to it.

Yeah, I didn't mean to minimize your post because it was an excellent, detailed write-up. Just wanted to provide an alternate method that has always worked well for me if the disassembly method seemed heavy for the first-timer. I hate removing older hoses if not neccesary because of possible splitting.

Fast method, but anyone trying this should still be prepared with a catch can when the wif sensor is removed.

I wonder if you drain from the wif, is this the good side of the filter? You would only be concerned with water then and could re-use?

By the way, I never disconnected the hoses and used my lift pump to bleed the air out.

And why didn't you get rid of the OEM fuel-heater while there is a much better one in the Racor bowl?

The 2 Micron filter is the main improvement the 10 micron filter is not as good. Besides to top it off, the better filter is less expensive with more capacity too.
Tony: I unplugged the relay in the fuse Box. In the States any State version of the EPA can get pissy if they see a plug unplugged, unplug a relay in the fuse box that does the same, they don't know. Many of the bureaucrats around the world have University Degrees in the Equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Basket Weaving, but have no talent to weave baskets. :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Warp2Diesel - that is impressive! So, did you have that adaptor made up or did you do it yourself? While I'm asking questions, does it just fit onto the standard head?
