My 2005 smokes a lot any suggestions how to correct it. People behind me get pissed. here is what i have done: timing belt pulleys and water pump and thermostat done 500 miles ago deleted cat with magnaflow muffler samco hoses replaced the fuel filter the new style head and plug were already done Elephant hose mod replaced the air filter cleaned the MAF and MAP sensors turbo was replaced 15,000 miles ago What next? external fuel pump, GDE eco tune? any imput would be appriciated, thanks |

Are there any codes being stored? CEL on? You said that the entire fuel head has been replaced, how much air are you finding when bleeding the head? Have you checked the air box to turbo inlet hose and also both CAC hoses. The oily vapor from the ccv takes its toll on these hoses. Really check the bottom of the cac hoses. It they look fine, and not alot of air in the fuel head, I would do many wide open throttle runs, the vanes in the turbo may be stuck with goo. Also the color of the smoke would tell more. Have you lost any power? . Is the temp gauge setting at 12 oclock. When my thermostat went south, not coming up to operating temp she did smoke, Hope this helps |

Hi and thanks Randy B i did the 100,000 miles belts pulleys stat and water pump 500 miles ago, what is a CAC? i did the ehm at 99,000miles i have 100,600 ccv smoke comes out of the 3/4in hose now. smoke is grayish only black when i stomp on it. I replaced the 2 turbo hoses with samco |

oh and the temp gauge is just below 12 o clock.there was a C E L but it went of after i tightened the 2 samco hoses and let 1 second amount of air 3 times out of the fuel head |

The cac hoses are cold air charge hoses.the turbo hoses, which you replaced with the Samco hoses. Did the smoke problem occur after the t/b replacement, or was it also smoking before? I would find a hill, up a interstate ramp and do some wide open throttle runs and see if that clears it up or helps. If the smoke started after the timing belt replacement and any loss of power if any it may not be timed properly. |

What air filter element did you use, some like Fram and cheap house brands are total crap. Proguard 7 and Amsoil elements are the top ones for flow with out the risk of K&N that let in dirt. Also run some good injector cleaner that is free of alcohol and other crap. Techron is safe and PS has some good products too. I don't like Seafoam for Diesels, don't trust what is in it, even though some love it. |

GDE eco tune stopped any smoke at hard acceleration on mine. Stock tune pumped out the black smoke on hard acceleration. |

Did you correctly align the injection pump it could be mis-adjusted, or mismatched to the injectors. Did you remove the injectors for any reason? One or more of the injectors could have been installed wrong, or damaged when installed. You could even have an engine computer problem. Bad readings from a sensor can cause the ECM to apply the wrong amount of fuel. You could even have contaminated fuel. If it's black smoke, you could have a clogged air cleaner. Blue smoke is usually from oil, white is water in fuel. Do you have an after market electronic diesel tuner installed (not a GDE tune) ? ... It may be malfuncting. And you checked your CAC hoses already. All you can do is trouble shoot each part of the system. |

shadow - does it smoke all the time or only under acceleration. If the former what color. If the latter it's normal although you might try an italian tuneup on your turbo (e.g. a couple of good hard full throttle runs up a slope like an on ramp). Mine smoked like a mosquito fogger truck under acceleration and a tiny bit all the time. After GDE EcoTune no more smoke. |
