Hi
does anyone know about CRD-Tuning from Germany? looks like the offer reasonable Chip to boost the power to CRD for 2.5 & 2.8.

Here is the link: http://www.crd-tuning.de/product_info.php/info/p295_tuningbox-for-jeep-cherokee.html

Here is the link on Ebay for CRD 2.5: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-2-5-CRD-141-PS-Chiptuning-Tuningbox-/130233713021?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item1e5288c17d saddly is't in German, but for the CRD 2.8 it's in English, her is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200557670386?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Does anyone have experience of them? any good, worth the time & effort?
I am thinking of buying one from my CRD.

Well I have a 2.5.....but no one else does...

But GDE does offer a tune for it, Keith worked on the 2.5 calibration during development so he knows his stuff.

How did you manage to get one of those, is this the engine that is going in the MJ?

I'm pretty sure that GDE is doing a tune for the 2.5 CRD and at least a couple of people in Australia are running it, try asking them.

Sam,

X2 how did you get a CRD 2.5 in the US? and if GDE does offer I will have look and see what he says.

Still anyone else know about these chips? or any other alternatives worth considering?

Glend, any new from your part of the World?

That looks identical to an Italian product I tried that lasted two weeks before blowing up. Tonycrd has the same one though and is happy.

This is just a simple box that intercepts the Fuel Rail Pressure sensor and fools theECU into upinning the fuel pressure. This does improve low rev power slightly at the cost of fuel economy. :(

Bill,

A part from the bad experience of going bag on you, if it had worked proparly was it worth it?
I could do with a bit more power at the lower end to get moving. My CRD feels like it could do with some.

I know the Cherokee is 2.5/2.8 Common Rail, but didnt realise a 2.5 Common Rail "Grand" Cherry was made .. ya live and learn :) .. it also says in the second link of Fils, that the standard torque figure is 320nm !!!!!! :o was this a state side model only ?

Hi Fil

I bought my GDE tune a few weeks agp - I'll do a review on the UK site when I've put a few more miles on to make sure I get over any "placebo effect" :)

First you buy the tuner from Keith - came within a week of ordering. PM me for a bit more info there. Once it arrived, I bought the tune from GDE, and because its comes in an email - no VAT or import tax! Loaded it up - no worries! I bought the tuner rather than renting it firstly to avoid the hassle and expense of posting back and forward, and secondly because it also acts as a code reader and clearer, and I was in the market for an OBDII reader anyway.

I am a bit leary of buying tuner boxes - they tend to only change one or two parameters - eg increased fuelling pressures, whereas the GDE seems to do rather more. I'm fairly sure they do a tune for the 2.5 - have a look on their site.

Adrian

GDE does have tuning available for the 2.5l Cherokee CRD. The tune eliminates EGR, improved fuel consumption and more performance. The performance is limited with the early CRD as the turbo is wastgated, so we are not able to dial up the boost pressure in certain situations or modify the ramp rate in boost build-up from idle. The goal with that application was to improve performance without causing much additional smoke. Injection timing was modified to accomplish this.

There is no Grand Cherokee 2.5. There was an XJ 2.5 TD but that has nothing to do with our model.

Tony

I think I posted the wrong link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jeep-Cherokee-2-5-CRD-143PS-Chiptuning-Tuningbox-/400074914613?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item5d2652bb35 , this looks to be the correcty one.

What do you think? I have been told you have one on yours (not this one), is it worth the hassel? I could do with a bit more humph at the botom end for offrading & towing, not fussed for top speed.

Fil.

No, the manufacturer of these 'chips' has his facts wrong and I told them that 2 years ago.

Anyway, yes I still have one on mine and it works. It will use a little more fuel though.

No fil, I do not advice against this or any other manufacturer of these 'tuning' boxes, because they are all the same (more or less).

The thing they have messed up is Grand Cherokee 2.5CRD.

Find the cheapest you can and try it.

My :2cents: for what value it is. My son (stoutdog) and I did a lot of looking into "tune" options back in 2009. About the only pro I ever saw with chips is they are easy to remove if you ever have to go to a dealer the cons are sporadic reliability problems and they are really "cheaters" in the sense they are not really a tune because all they do is tell the ECU lies about some engine readings to fake the ECU into changing engine performance inputs. I'm by no means saying they won't work just that they cannot by their very nature do much good. In contrast the GDE tune directly changes the programming of the ECU and how it manages engine performance based on real data inputs (e.g. does vastly more than a chip and does it without cheating inputs). To the extent there is a down side to GDE is it cost more than chips (but you clearly get lots more for your money) and it can be overwritten by a dealer although GDE will reflash if that happens.

FYI on the rare occasion I go to a dealer I write on the work ticket a prohibition on updating any of my vehicle software/hardware without my WRITTEN permission.
