I am getting my '05 Ltd ready to sell soon and one task is to find and replace the bad glow plug. Rather than fight for access to the glow plugs I have removed the battery, fuel filter, FCV, intake elbow and various hoses and wires. Now not only can I see and touch the glow plugs I can also see and touch the crapped out EGR valve.

So what should I do with it while I can get to it? It was replaced once under warranty but I am not going to replace this one, too expensive. Has anyone ever succeeded in repairing one? I am tempted to just block the exhaust inlet side with a plate but then I would have to explain the CEL to prospective buyers so that might not be such a good idea.

I am open to suggestions. Anything else I should do while I've got access to that side of the engine? I will clean up the soot/oil crud which is not too bad, probably because I have been running with the ORM for the past few years. I will also clean the oil out of the air hoses.

Now that both kids are gone we just don't need a 4 door SUV anymore. My wife loves her NB TDI and I need a pickup truck so that I can retire my '82 Chevy LUV diesel to antique status.

Thanks. Sounds like it will be worth a try at cleaning the EGR. Back to the shop.
