new struts/shocks on a budget

I need a good bang for my buck. I'm looking at Monroe quick strut 171577R/L for the front of my CRD and maybe putting Rancho RS5284 RS5000 shocks on the rear. I heard okay things about Monroe struts but bad things about Monroe shocks. This puts me at just under $400.

Do I need anything else? Is this setup going to last me a few years? I don't necessarily need a lift, just a smooth ride.

Monroe's will work - but it's like stock - not great but better than worn out.

Monroe doesn't have any springs for the CRD...

The same partnumber goes for the 2.4 and 3.7 gasser...

So the monroe quickstrut I see is probably for the gasser then (and will probably wear out faster on the crd?)

Well crap. Maybe I do need to just suck it up and get the OME kit. How long should THAT last me?

At least 100k if you beat on it offroad,longer if it's a mall crawler.

I ordered the OME suspension set. Is there a good walkthrough on how to install struts? I guess I really need to know which socket sizes I need for the larger nuts. This is my only mobile vehicle, so I need to have my ducks in a row (:

However you do not need to press bolts in/out

the hard parts
Assembly
CRD OME springs are 500 lb/in - you have to compress them about an inch to assemble - cheapie spring compressors won't work -
but almost any shop that will change shocks - will have a wall mounted spring compressor and will generally assemble yours for $20-40 range..

CRD's have a shorter Drivers side CV axle - so it's more difficult to install - use caution that you don't tear the CV boot.
