Hey guys...
As the topic states....I just threw a P101 code. The Jeep seems to run fine as it does not seem to run any different than yesterday before the CEL came on. I did clean the MAP sensor a couple weeks back (first time it had been done in the 106,000 miles of it's existence. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The cage around the sensor had the dry soot caked around it and easn't oily. Some NC brake cleaner did the trick.) and I just replaced the air filter after it threw the code. After disconnecting the b attery the CEL was still there.
I was going to wait until the rain let up and clean the MAF sensor. The description at Autozone said it could also be the result of a vaccum hose. Anybody ever encounter that causing a P101 code? Would I be better served by just unplugging the MAF sensor and using the situation to do the ORM since I have the CEL anyways?

P0101-MAF SENSOR SIGNAL NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE DEVIATION. It may be unhappy with the cleaning although that's just a guess. Part #53013733AB

I havent cleaned the MAF sensor yet....only the MAP sensor. Any chance the MAP sensor cleaning is somehow triggering the P101 code? I would think that if I somehow damaged the MAP it would have acted up within the last 2 weeks.....especially since I had a pair of 450 mile round trip road trips. I wish the rain would let up so I could pull the MAF.

Ps look like Fs sometimes when I get in a hurry, sorry about that. As to the MAP kicking off this code, I don't have a clue.

You can try cleaning your MAF sensor, but you should buy the specific MAF sensor cleaner from an auto parts store. It definitely will not like brake cleaner.

This faults works by using the ambient air temp, intake air temp, boost pressure, and engine speed to calculate an airflow value when you're off the pedal. This is compared to the actual reading.
If you damaged the MAP sensor during the cleaning, it could lead to a wrong calculation and set the fault...but this is fairly unlikely.

You mentioned being at 106000mi, have you done the timing belt yet?
If not, I would highly suggest to remove the intake manifold and check the finger followers.
If you find any that the roller wheels are even slightly loose, replace them all.

I just cleaned the MAF sensor and I still have the CEL. I did unhook the positive battery cable to try and reset the system and clear the code while I was cleaning the MAF sensor. The sensor was a bit dirty and the silver plate on the side did have some oily residue. One thing I did notice was that even after cleaning and letting the sensor sit to dry for 5 minutes or so the silver plate on the side was really cold and had some condensation on it. The outside temp is in the low 60's with a good bit of moisture in the air as it just stopped raining a while ago. Is that an issue....the silver plate on the sensor being really cold and the bit of condensation?
Even though I cleaned the MAP a few weeks ago would it be prudent to clean it again in this circumstance? At Autozone....the code reader's explination of the P101 code said some of the causes could include a vaccum hose broken or loose. Are there any vaccum hoses I should start out by checking? What would be the symptoms if the MAP sensor died after cleaning it a couple of weeks ago (although as I said in the OP.....I have driven over 1,000 miles since cleaning it. It would seem that if cleaning it caused it to fail.....it would have done so before driving 1,000 miles. Any thoughts as to where to go from here?
Mr. Mopar.....I have talked to a local diesel mechanic shop about doing the timing belt and I am having it done in a couple of weeks. I am waiting on the timing belt I ordered to come in and I am about to order the water pump, pulleys, tensioners, etc. The shop quoted me a price of $513 for the labor if I supply the parts.

Looking at this code in the Diesel Powertrain Diagnostic book.Under this code Ist test is quote Inspect all air intake and turbocharger related tubes for damage, restrictions or poor connections.
Will not take you that long to check and just maybe the problem.

Update.....
Well....after driving about 120 miles or so.....the CEL went off. I didn't do anything after celaning the MAF sensor and changing the air filter. The guy at Advanced who checked the code with the scanner said that it takes between 50 and 100 miles for the CEL to go out after the fix is done. I thought he was bonkers but maybe there was something to it. I'm thinking it was moreso the air filter as it was pretty grudy.

Not bonkers as some codes do clear on their own after the issue is fixed or for whatever reason goes away. Clearing can be related to distance driven or number of engine start cycles.
