The turbo don't whistle pulls hard. Drives good wonder if the turbo going bad. I thought it was the hoses so I replaced with new ones. It seems fine I drive the hell out of it. I've do the steep hills and let the black smoke roll.
Thanks for the help

Not hearing it is not a problem. Drive and enjoy.

Actually the whistle comes from the compressor wheel/air inlet side of things.

The turbos on these CRDs do not whistle very much at all anyway. BUT, if you want to make sure that you are hearing what it can produce, take off the fresh air hose going to the turbo (you may have to remove the air cleaner and CAC hose too) and spray some chlorinated Brake Parts Cleaner onto the compressor wheel fins. With the design of the CCV, oil can coat the comp wheel and housing thus causing an insulating effect. Too, it's not moving the amount of air that it could if was clean like when it was new. Hope this helps.

I don't hear mine much either and I think this is normal. It's only really noticeable in stop/go traffic when I've got the window open i.e. when I take my foot off the accelerator. Other than that it's drowned out by all the other noises.

I could hear a bit of a whistle from my OEM turbo for the 1st couple of miles at low speed (10-15) after that regardless of speed I never heard it or maybe I just ignored it. Haven't paid any attention to whether or not I can hear the GDE Stage II turbo, might try to see.

Had mine rebuilt with new varible vanes and bearings and cleaned up and now it is quite loud. Had the oxidizer gutted to relieve back pressure and I believe that contributes to its loudness . When It spools up it goes to a low hissing noise and the performance is outstanding!!
