So, my turbo has been replaced, along with the flywheel hub and bolts, and I decided, while the tranny was off, to replace the TC. Mechanic has everything back together, they went to start it, and the engine is "stuck". It's not "seized", because they were able to turn it by hand before they took the tranny off.. The mechanics don't know what it is.The Jeep has been sitting since November. They believe it could be a stuck bearing, because it has been sitting so long. They are going to drop the oil pan to get a look-see. Anybody have any thoughts? This is never ending. ![]() |

It's not just a flat battery ...right? ![]() Stuck bearing? What is your mechanic on? Things to check: A) Battery B) Flywheel not compatible with starter (to big) C) Starter doesn't work right D) Flywheel bolts are way to long and lock engine on rear crankshaft bearing cap (shot in the dark here, don't know for sure if the holes in the crankschaft go all the way trough) |

They have a premium operation, do excellent work, and have extensive experience: foreign and domestic. Battery is fine. Flex Plate is stock, only hub was replaced. Starter tests fine. Flex plate bolts were just replaced with MOPAR replacements. The reality is that, they don't know what it is, but it is 100%, definitely mechanical. The idea about the bearing is a longshot, and although it's weird, it's a documented occurrence. My mechanic didn't call me and say, "it's a stuck bearing". He called and said, "we're not sure yet. taking oil pan off to get another view. Could be something weird like a bearing getting stuck from sitting too long, but we don't know yet." . |

Ok, then I don't know what's going on. They can move it by hand but it won't turn over with the starter? You keep saying your guy is 100% really good mechanic, but this is probably his first KJ CRD. You cannot drop the oilpan without lowering the subframe/ front diff etc. not a fun job and all for nothing imho. |

And yeah, everyone is scratching their head as well. The engine was able to be hand turned 5 weeks ago. Now, the engine is stuck. |

Have they tried jumping it? I have had a weak battery before, but light and everything worked, just when you turned the key nothing happened, no click click click, no wrrr wrrr wrrr, nothing at all. The starter just did not have enough amps to turn it over. I jumped it off and it started just fine. |

Just talked to service manager again. I misunderstood his original message. He didn't say they got everything buttoned up, and then the engine wouldn't turn. He said that they were in the middle of buttoning everything up. So, they were trying to hand turn the engine to get the holes lined up for putting on the flex plate, hub, and TC, and the engine wouldn't hand turn. The first thing they checked was for hydro-lock. No hydro lock. |

I don't remember the details exactly but we had a guy with a similar problem after replacing the rear main, something about install the flywheel bolts back in too far and locking the engine down. Its out there in search.....but I don't remember any other details such as who it was or anything else to search for other than that it happened after installing a new rear main seal. |

Thanks Sam. i believe Tony mentioned that as well. It's on the list to check. ![]() |

I suspect the problem sits with the flywheel hub and bolts since we have seen that problem before, have them back out the flywheel bolts and see if it turns over by hand then. |

Something to do with small/tiny spacers or shims being left out during reassembly. |

I talked to the service manager one more time, things will continue on Monday, and they will be checking bolts first thing. |

I believe this is thread that some of you are referring to, about two oddly shaped shims, behind the thrust washer, which is behind the rear main seal: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=62578&hilit=flywheel+bolts |
