Does anyone know if it is possible to add ESP to the 2005 model year CRD?

Thanks,

ESP on the CRD requires a different software in the ECU. If you were able install all the additional electronics in the vehicle, you would then need to find a dealer who would flash an '05 car with the '06 software which I'm betting you will be hard pressed to find.

I don't believe it has that much backward compatibility, I don't think the STARScan will allow it to flash the '06 software to '05 model.

Not sure why it would be worth it. KJ is a fairly stable platform, I have had mine off since I purchased it.

You can never turn it completely off. It explains further in the owners manual, but essentially, the only thing pushing that button does is turn it to partially off mode, which only overrides automatic throttle reduction.

Interesting.....I will have to go look it up. Of course that makes sense since it functions as a system with the traction control and ABS.

This is the answer to the same question i asked to the Green Diesel Engineering people:

You are not going to be able to add ESP on your 2005 CRD. This would require new hubs at each wheel since the 2006KJ has speed sensors at every wheel. Then the electrical system is different and you would need a new ABS/ESP module and an ECM from a 2006 CRD. It would be cheaper to sell your CRD and just buy a 2006 CRD that has ESP as standard equipment.

To add to that you will need a new ABS pump along with all new rear brake lines as the '06's use a 4 channel system while the '05 and older uses a 3 channel system.A new rear diff(complete) from a '06/'07 is also required.Heck before '06 ABS was just a option on any KJ,was never standard till '06.
