Okay, I bought this rig with 8,500 miles on it with the knowledge that it would take special attention.

However, now we are at 104,000 miles and I am so tired of chasing down problem after problem that I'm about to bail and go get a reliable Toyota 4Runner. However, we own this vehicle and it gets great mileage.

I need some advise... so far I have installed the 2-2.5" lift with OME/Frankinlift stuff, new lower ball joints, control arms front/rear, GDE Hot tune, Samco hoses, and some other upgrades that are slipping my mind at the time. We just blew out a BFG M/T tire but we were going to need new tires by the end of the summer anyway. There is a definite whistle coming from the turbo that sounds new to me. However, I pulled off the intake hose and the turbo is clean with very minimal forward/back play and no side to side play. I have all the parts in my garage to do the TB and water pump change but will probably hire out the change due too lack of time.

My question is, I'm really low on confidence with this vehicle's future but since we own it and when it runs its nice to have for the area we live and the mileage but I don't know if its worth putting all the money into fixing it (clunks, whistle, TB change, $1000 worth of Toyo M/T's) only to have the turbo blow up on me out of the blue or maybe the glow plugs break on me and then I have to dump thousands more into this rig on top of the money to get it going as it should be right now.

Anybody have some words of encouragement for keeping this thing or would you bail now and cut your losses?

You need to be able to do some of the minor work on it yourself.

If you don't do some of the minor work and maintenance yourself, or have a reasonably priced mechanic do the work for you, then I would part with it. Sorry to say.

I do most of the work myself but might have decided to not do the TB myself.

All thanks to this great site by the way can I do the minor things.

The TB is a scary thought.

Sirsam travels .... contact him, he is more than qualified and will cost you only hundreds for 6hrs labor instead of a thousand.
