Recently had a transmission line fail at the front of the vehicle. The failure is where the rubber hose is crimped to the metal line up by the transmission cooler. I would crawl under and inspect to see if the rubber hose is free to rotate around. It should not and if it does it will soon come loose at the crimp. I lost enough fluid to burn the underdrive overdrive clutch and had to learn how to work on an automatic trasnsmission!!!

OMG, history repeats itself . This was a common issue on the Caravan but at the transmission side. Transmission hoses require constant tension clamps. When are Chrysler going to start learning from their previous mistakes :(.

Our Cherokee/Liberty CRD has small leak in one of the transmission cooler lines at front of the car. Hose and crimp connector can be rotated around metal pipe. What would be a good repair method for this fault? Do I have to buy new lines? Thanks.

I'm sure you can order a mopar replacement, but you may have more luck at a local hydraulic shop making you a better replacement... And it might be cheaper as well. You'll have to drain (or suck-out) the current fluid to replace the line.

Sadly most vehciles these days no matter who makes them have tranny cooler line leaks.GM is more then well known for engine cooler lines leaking also on there full size trucks/SUV's and S10 series vehicles.

I swear they all get there cooler lines from the same place which sucks at making cooler lines.

that's what happens when the bean counters drive the price paid for every single part down as hard as they can. corners get cut. cheaper materials get used.

I had my line rebuilt by a local bearing shop. Some NAPA stores can also rebuild them. My rebuilt line is better than new with a swivel joint and rebuild was approximately 1/2 of cost of new line from stealership.

Interesting, this is an area I havent read of in the past. What do I ask for with a new custom built transmission line? Is there a size I reference or do I have to drive the CRD to the hydraulic shop for them to figure it out? I'd like to get the parts made and have handy for when I do the filter/fluid, so that I can do it all at once.

I recently found that one of my transmission hard lines near the front of the engine had almost been worn through by rubbing on the power steering line connector. Better check that out on your CRDs

I don't recall using any special tools to remove the line. I had my brother in law help me by removing and replacing the line (he's not very mechanically inclined) while I was, at the same time, replacing the water pump in my CRD.

You don't need a special tool, just pull the plastic protector away, and use a pick, go around the inside and the clip will pop up and out. Get it to where you can pull the whole clip out and then the line will slide right out. The lines and connections at the tranny are a tight fit, but can come out, haha...
