For all of you that live in NYS and have a diesel libby they are required to plug them in during inspections starting july 1st. i just got my inspection done at my friends garage yesterday and found this out. this means check engine lights will have to be off to pass. this is only for diesel vehicles under 8900lb gvw. i have removed EGR and cat and muffler from my jeep so my light is on. my 05 jeep liberty will probably be going up for sale in the next 6 months and i will upgrading to a dodge cummins.

Keith can certainly help with the idiot lights... You might need to be a little "creative" with sheet metal if they also want to pass a mirror under the body - Those physical inspections are a bugger when you have an exhaust system like you describe.

Maybe time to get a mailbox and register it in another state?

The tune will not delete the p0401 code from having a stuck closed egr. Ask me how I know. Now im stuck buying an egr valve and having the headache to install it. If gde comes up with a way to delete that code from a stuck closed egr I will gladly pay for it.

Just a reminder that EGRs can be unstuck and cleaned. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=59352&p=659410#p659410 and viewtopic.php?f=5&t=62495

GDE ECO tune removes the EGR and FCV (Chrysler's 2nd "egr" valve) from the equation altogether. I'm mailing mine off today to be done.

That EGR on the back right is a real pain in the booty to get in or out, and it's commonly misdiagnosed as the FCV by dealerships everywhere.

The tune doesn't remove the egr all together it just drops its functionality down to 10% if im not mistaken. So its still working in the back ground. Im sure the more diesel buffs in this forum will correct me if im wrong. I've been running with the mil on ever since I got the tune but I wasnt really worried about it since ny state only plugged the diesels over 8k.

VMKJCRD,

Have you cleared the P0401 code with the GDE tune installed and it came back? This should not happen and your EGR is limited to 0% flowrate with the tune. We may need to dive into your CRD to figure this out.

I have watched the computer with a GDE tune, the EGR is activated for about a half-second each and every time you lift your foot off the accelerator.

The only way I know of to completely fool the computer that the EGR is working (yet not electrically connected) is with the SEGR device. THAT will let the computer think that the EGR has done its job, and keep the idiot light off. It is completely undetectable electronically.

I tried clearing the code with my scangauge but it always came back :( . Also did many cold-hot-cold starts thinking it would clear the code but it always came back. I will gladly ship you my ECU again, maybe you may be able to clear it with your software or a possible reflash.

My Sport has the code that is making the ECU think it is attached to a standard, is that going to cause me to fail inspection? I tried to clear it, as well as GDE with no luck, I hope it is not going to mean a new or used ECU???

We can clear the P0610 "Vehicle options mismatch" now, but you need to send in your ecm for this. It will not cause you to fail an emission test if the test lab understands it is not an emission relavent code...a big if. Is you CEL permanently on?

Good to know you can do this, it was stubborn last time and you could not do it. The CEL light does not work at all in my Sport. I know the guy who does my inspections since he was a kid, so I am thinking we may be able to work this out, if not I will send the ECM to you for a good flashing. We do not have a test lab, just a local registered repair shop.

Your relationship with the inspector is probably the solution to a LOT of potential problems, be sure to buy the guy a few beers or whatever that keeps him happy. If the idiot light isn't on, he might just be able to check the box off on his form and say "yup, I looked at it and it looked fine ta me" and move on.

The inspector does have a computer with an OBD plug, and it does send the data to the state. :juggle:

Well i know one way to get the CEL off, i have one of those nifty egr delete wiring kits that someone sold me on here, the one that turns cel light off for the egr and splices into the wiring harness for the ecu, this will come in handy, and as far as the exhaust goes my buddy does my inspection and he wont care about the exhaust.

If your in NY it doesn't matter what your buddy thinks, the computer connects you vehicle direct to Albany. No way to bypass it. Sorry to say NY followed the admission standards of California.

The OBDII doesn't know if you have a muffler or a straight pipe. I think that is what he is getting at.

That maybe true for a CRD but not a gas model.

But besides that any code will fail you, also instant fail if any readiness monitors is not "ready".Plus if the MIL does not light up for the gauge test that is a automatic fail also.

Yup.

And like tjkj said there has to be no codes and the MIL has to be working.
