Top notch outfit. I would have run my CRD into a tree long ago if it weren't for Keith's help.

What is the increase in mileage? I get 23MPG right now and I have heard the average gain is up to 26-27MPG and as high as 35MPG.

As far as I know it's rated at 23MPG. I've owned mine for a year and it has always got 23MPG. I'm looking at changing the timing belt because it's at 180,000km and I don't know if or when it was done last. A friend mentioned the GDE upgrade, said it would increase my mileage?

I did both the GDE Eco & trans tune about 9K miles ago and have been happy with the way the jeep is running. Before the tune my wifes daily commute was 22mpg & after its a solid 25. 75-80 mph steady driving will drain the tank to the tune of 26mpg. Holding it to 65-70mph steady kicked it up to 29 mpg. I dont know exactly what the open road numbers were before the tune but the engine certainly runs stronger with the tune and no EGR is a huge plus!
GDE eco tune is a gift that keeps giving.... Thanks Keith!

Running stock size tires and no lift, I get 26-27.5 MPG on my daily commute to work :) with the GDE Eco Tune. I have seen 31MPG on Interstate travel, if I'm easy on the pedal and don't exceed 65MPH. Without GDE's tunes, I would have been very dissapointed with this vehicle.

Great tunes, I have it in two of my Jeeps and in my one of two Sprinters. :google:

I've owned my 05 CRD since mile 95. I drove the first 65k without the GRD Eco tune. After 40k with the tune, my average only shows 25 mpg. BUT winter diesel really hurts in Michigan. In the summer I have gotten 31 on a good tank. The oil is much cleaner, and the engine has performed much better than the first 65k. I have not for one second regretted the money that I spent on the tune.

I had the GDE Eco tune for two tank fulls of fuel my mllage has not gotten any better maybe picked up 2 mpg ! The smoke is gone can't really tell power difference i never really put my foot into it,but there is no big difference that i can feel . I was averging 19-20 mpg(hand calculated) now with tune around 22 mpg i got 400+/- miles out of the last two tanks am i doing something wrong or does it take awhile to adjust? I bought a scangauge2 to check MPG and find out that MPG and trip option won't work on my 05.
Anyone got any ideas.

I remember I had to make a few more changes. My thermostat was bad, and that was hurting my economy. I also cleaned the MAP sensor on the manifold a few more times over the next few thousand miles until it came out clean with only a thin coating of oil. You could have a gummed up intake and intercooler for a while until it works itself out now that your EGR valve is off.

Give it time I guess. I have been real happy.

fish1 - you say your mileage has not gotten any better but then you say maybe +2mpg which is at least a 10% improvment. I can tell you my in town mpg went from ca. 19 to ca. 23.5 but when my tstat went south (needle would not get higher than 2 full ticks left of center except in summer with AC on) it dropped back to ca. 21.5. That's hand calculated GPS corrected long term averages not just 2 tanks.

My smoke instantly went away and stayed away, my MAP sensor stays clean, and my oil is noticeably cleaner although the latter 2 took a couple of oil changes to really show.

Not that 2 mpg is not better then what i was getting its just that i hear most people averging 25mpg and getting into the 30 mpg range on the highway. My last tank included a 250mile highway trip. The first tank was all around town driving. My temp gauge stays in the middle all the time. I don't drive with a heavy foot.

For what it's worth 14,200 miles of driving since GDE tune average mpg 24.75 vs. 4400 miles before GDE tune average mpg 20.0. May not be the greatest comparison as the post GDE driving had at least 1 long highway trip and I don't have data on the 16K miles before my first CRD was rear ended by a dump truck although the mpg figures were similar to the pre-GDE figures on my current vehicle.

Overall based on some 20K without GDE (cumulative miles on 2 2005 CRDs) and 14K with GDE based on my style of driving, terrain, AC use, etc 19/27 went to 22/32. Mind you that's long term and I've seen as high as 30 without GDE and as low as 19.1 with GDE (bad tstat though) for individual tank figures.

I will say mpg improved right after the tune was installed but it improved more after the 2000 mile road trip we took a few weeks later.

You might want to consider running some injector cleaner in the next tank and an italian turbo tune up (warmed up engine, hard throttle run or 2 up a grade like an on ramp type slope) both of which should be done from time to time anyway.

So at the very least, a 2mpg increase should happen. What about the response? Sometimes mine has great response and other times it hesitates. Haven't checked yet but considered that the fuel pressure may be low? If there is no fuel pressure problem, I expect that the GDE will fix this hesitation problem. Biggest issue is I can't be without my jeep for however long it takes to remove the ECU and mail it for a tune and wait for the return. What if something happens and it gets lost? Estimate buying an ECU and getting it tuned at around $600?

Redbink,

Very few customers send in their ECM for tuning these days. We have a flash tool rent or purchase that allows you to install the tune directly through the OBD port and the tuning files are shared via email. The response is improved vs. stock as well. Your random hestitation issue is most likely related to a slow responding EGR system. GDE

20K miles with the GDE tune and trans module now.

Never get less than 23 MPG around town and 35 highway. All around average is now 26 MPG.

Seems like it runs better for a while after pulling the trailer over a pass or two. Must give the injectors a work out and clean them up.
