Post subject:  Differential issue

last week I broke my front differential on my EU spec kj 2.8 crd .......

I found a 2.5crd front differential from a friend of mine .....but don't know if the gear ratio is the same .....

i noticed that the box itself fits perfetcly so before connecting the main shaft to the transfer case I'd like to know if it's the same also inside........

thanks ...... michele from italy

pretty sure there's a stamp/tag/sticker on it someplace that says what ratio is in the housing. pretty sure though the standards are the same for all locales of these things... v6 gasser and diesel autos got 3.73 gears, i4 gassers got 4.10, v6 gasser manuals got 3.55. we had never got the diesel manuals (and you didn't specify if you an auto or manual) but if the transmissions and transfer cases are the same I'd be wiling to bet the diff gearing is the same as well, between your vehicle and the "donor".

otherwise you can try the old tried and true trick... spin the input to the diff and count the number of times you have to turn it to turn the hub 1 rotation. :D
the difference between the 3 factory values should be easily noticable (3.55, 3.73 and 4.10)

If I remember right the 2.5 CRD's use 4.10 gears so do not put your CRD in 4wd or bye-bye front diff, possible t-case,and who knows what else.

Find a correctly geared diff or have the rear diff regeared to match the front(cheaper of the 2 to regear) ASAP.

Yep my 2.5 2002 CRD uses a 4.10 diff but I have seen tonycrd refer to an other available diff for the 2.5 Export. :?
