I will try 4 cycles but all the other Chryslers I have had it is 4.

Yeah I got the Throttle valve figured out but thanks.

My real question now is what is the process for installing the new electric fan in front of that radiator and any idea the bolt size as the previous owner removed it and did not put the hardware back it the nuts.....

So I opened the fan from Rockauto and it is for a gasoline model and goes behind the radiator.......

Has anyone had better luck buying this part?

What PN did you get?
This is the correct PN:
Fan electric 2 speed pusher - 05143021AA
fyi: Its is pricey...

Note: I remember someone on LOST telling us the fan on the PT Cruiser is the same one as on the Jeep diesel... Not sure of this though!

I am returning the one I bought from Rockauto and ordered a new one from IDparts.com which appears correct but is $325

I took the old fan motor apart last nite. Two of the four brushes were seized. I fought getting it back together for an hour and decided it wasn't worth it as one of the brushed broke when I freed it up and refused to stay together. That brush design is very poor. Never seen anything like before.

I did get the motor to run but it blew the fuse. I guess the seized brushes cause it.

But I found the coolant loss. One of the lines going into the EGR valve with those little finger clamps leaks.

Slowly working thru the issues. But I do see the light at the end of the tunnel... Though it may burn out when I get closer...... LOL

$ 279.00 at Factory Chrysler Parts:> http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/pro ... 021AA.html
Ask IDparts to price match, I believe they will? :juggle:

Got the new alternator today and installed it..... Not lights now but the check engine. Runs great. Now I get the new fan installed an I think I have most of the issues licked.

I cannot say how much I appreciate the help an patience of you guys.

Ill let you know how the fan install goes,

Next is going to be tires but that is the fun part.

I'm guessing you mean all the others were 3 key cycles. Same here, this is the first one I've seen that needs 4 cycles to show codes.

You are correct I meant 3 cycles................ Ill try it again I bought a scan tool.

So I unsnapped the outermost grill cover. What need removed to get the fan installed? Hopefully the correct one arrives tomorrow.

Looks like you'll also need to remove the front bumper cover, the header panel, and probably the upper radiator support.

Here are a couple of Sir Sam's videos that show what needs to be done:
Jeep Liberty Diesel Timing Belt Replacement Part 1 - Bumper and Grill Removal (start at 4m 29s)
Jeep Liberty Diesel Timing Belt Replacement Part 2 - Radiator and Intercooler Removal

That is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks to you and Sir Sam both!!!

Ok so I got the new correct Mopar fan and installed it. Plugged it in, started the engine, turned on the AC and the fan did not come on as I was expecting. I checked the 40Amp fuse in the distribution center under the hood and checked good. Also checked all the blade fused inside. Am I missing something like the fan only comes on a certain temp is reached? I see in the distribution center HI and Low rad ran relays. Could one be bad and how do you even check them?

Should the electric fan I installed come on with the AC no matter the engine or tranny temp?

I bought a transmission cooler I plan to install when it arrives.

Thanks
Randy

Things like ambient temperature and AC freon pressures determine when the electric fan comes on.
Give it a few minutes or take it for a drive, it will come on.
Or pull one of the two fan relays and the fan should immediately come on at low speed.

I was under the impression the electric fan came on with the AC regardless of air temp.

I had not even put things back together. Just want to make sure it worked before reassembling everything.

Good info about pulling a relay. I would never guessed that would force it to come on. I assumed without a relay it would never come on.

Ill reassemble and try your suggestions.

Thanks for the help. Again.

From the FSM.
electric cooling fan operation:
FSM wrote:
The electric radiator cooling fan is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the radiator cooling fan relays. The PCM regulates fan operation based on input from the engine coolant temperature sensor, battery temperature sensor, air conditioning select switch and vehicle speed.

In addition to using coolant temperature and battery temperature sensor to control cooling fan operation, the cooling fan will also be engaged when the, air conditioning system is activated. The relay is also energized when air conditioning is selected and coolant temperature is above 95° C ( 203° F), or , air conditioning is selected and battery temperature sensor is above 41° C (106° F). It will then de-energize when air conditioning is selected and coolant temperature is below 92° C (198° F), or air conditioning is selected and battery temperature is below 38° C (100° F).

Well I am sure the coolant was not above 203 F.

I am surprised the Fan doesn't run just to move more air thru the Condenser to help the AC be more effective...

Lean something every day...

Thanks for the info.

Keep in mind, sometimes the FSM is not 100% correct when it comes to the diesel Libertys!
Unfortunately we have found some discrepancies and contradictions in the FSM before when dealing with the diesel related information in the file.
I believe in some locations in the manual, they used gasser information for diesel applications when indeed it did not always apply?

On my CRD, the electric cooling fan engages to HI as soon as I turn on the AC and the compressor engages and brings system pressures up to normal.
But I live in the South, and it is always HOT here in summer time!

I can confirm this.

Sooooo should the electric fan come on with the ac or only when the coolant has reached a certain temp?

I believe mine comes on high as soon as the AC system comes up to pressure after the AC compressor engages regardless of temperature.
I will test it today and see, we are in the 80's here ambient temperature....

I would appreciate it. I am going to pull the Fan relay as was suggested earlier and see if it comes on.... Per FLASH7210 comment.

There is power to one side of the fuse in the powere dist center.
