Lift Pump info please

Well my next project will be a lift pump and I have only read one in-line write up. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=39362

Are there any other write ups, this is very helpful and should do the trick but like to get as much info as possible.
Also where is everyone ordering the pumps, The Kennedy pump is the one I had in mind but I'm not sure on where to get it, and maybe a part number?

while your at think about adding a valve and tapping into the return line..
the input to the valve is the bleeder valve..the output is a 'T' into the return line to the tank.

why?
turn the key on..lift pump runs..open the valve and let the air bleed back to the tank..

sure beats pumping the priming pump on the fuel head..

Alternative that costs less is a Facet 40109 from http://www.yachtsupplydepot.com/mechani ... t_697.html Can be installed in the same place or some have installed in engine bay where it runs just fine.

Sounds like a good idea but wouldn't that just happen in the system without the addition of a bleeder valve?

What Kennedy lift pump should I be looking for?

Every time you hook me up with some good info, If you we're near me I would buy you lunch!!

The cheaper pump link, there or lots of options... Do they all work the same?

I would rather get a decent pump and be done! Is the Kennedy pump a good "made is usa" product?

I honestly don't know where either the Kennedy or Facet are built. Folks on the forum have used both with, as far as I know, good results. The key points to look for are 1) flow thru design so if the pump fails the CP3 still pull fuel (keep in mind any pump you install, in-line or in-tank, is a supplemental pump and the CP3 primary pump continues to function) and 2) relatively low pressure (both the Kennedy and Facet 40109 are low pressure). I know the specs on the Facet 40109 and that others have used them. I don't know about the other pumps on the Yacht Supply site so can provide no comments.

Full disclosure - I have a Facet 40109 on the shelf but I've not installed it as my air in fuel problems went away with installation of the 2n gen fuel filter head.

Even cheaper approach. I strongly suspect that replacement of the fuel line quick disconned fittings with fuel hose would solve any air in fuel problems without bothering to add any sort of supplemental pump. That said if you go this route I'd strongly recommend high quality fuel line and not the cheap stuff sold by many chain parts outlets. It's a bit pricey (ca. $5 a foot) but marine grade that meets SAE J1527 type A1-15 marine (USCG) specs or ISO 7840 Type A-1 such as Shields Series 368 from West Marine should do just fine. I've had really bad experience with cheaper fuel lines cracking in short order.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing, I was at a parts store this morning on my way to work and picked up some fuel line. All they has was the same old black gates fuel line so I bought a few feet anyway.
I might try to stop at West Marine on the way home and grab some good stuff.
Figures I read this as soon as I get out of the parts store!

I have, as well as others, used the '05 cummins in-tank lift pump (Sorry, can't find my invoice for the part #). It is almost identical to our in tank set up except for the addition of the pump itself. I think there is a write up in the tech section. I went with the in-tank set up as I drive a lot on dirt roads and didn't like rocks and such pounding on it. The installation is very simple (Tank as empty as possible, floor jack, and a piece of plywood to distribut the weight of the tank on the jack). Lower the tank slowly, you will have to reach up and disconnect the fuel lines, and lower. I used a brass round punch to remove the ring holding the pump module, cleaned up and reused the green o-ring. and replaced. For the wiring, I went to the auto parts store and got the wiring plug inserts. Before leaving the wiring under the seat and sercuring everything, check the polarity for the pump by cycling on and having the vent on the fuel head open with a tube to a container. All in all, it took less than 3 hours with a buddy helping and less than a sixer between us.
I have not had any problems with the set-up, and really like the ability to prime on fuel filter changes.

you will have to change the fuel level rods from your orginal to the new replacement for proper fuel level.

I installed the Airtex E7181M lift pump (Cummins In-tank) Less than 130 bucks on Amazon and it drops right in, wiring was easy. I bought female connectors and filled the plug with silicone instead of buying a harness.
