I'm at my wit's end. Last evening my wife drove the CRD (2005) to the store. When she went to start the jeep she got nothing.

All of the lights are on, the glow plug indicator lights and then goes out, radio, headlights, and all electronics work.

When she turns the key it does nothing.

My first thought is the starter relay, as we have had issues with that in the past and have replaced it after similar symptoms.

I pulled the wiper relay and swapped with the starter - still no start, but the wipers work fine. Also, I tried to jump the relay using a wire, which has worked in the past, but again, nothing.

The starter itself has never made any noise or shown any indication of impending failure.

My question is what are my next steps to try and get this thing started and brought home from the store's parking lot?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you have juice at the relay and still won't start then the problem must be at the starter or the wiring to it. Jumper cable direct to starter will let you know if starter is bad.

Would a starter work one time and not another time and not show any sign of failing? I'll try to jump from the battery to the starter after work today and see what that tells me.

Ive had this problem before when my starter was goin out and i noticed that temperature made a difference in wether my jeep was gonna start.. Like if it was in the middle of the day and hot out it wouldnt start but if was cool out at night i had no problems starting also if it started at first then drove it awhile it seemed like the heat of the engine would cause it not to start again untill it sat for awhile for it to cool down. This was just my experience dont know if im right or wrong but i hope it helps.
