I just replaced my thermostat with the "OEM" replacement Crown unit offered by
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com This is NOT an OEM part as fitted to the Jeep Liberty. Maybe it fits some industrial application.
The blank boss on rear of housing required drilling and tapping 1/4"NPT (be careful here the thermostat is close by) to add a pipe "T" to accomodate the hose to overflow tank and temp sensor. The lower hose connection was too large and I had to add a short piece of hose and a step down connector to make a fit.
It works great, I saved a chunk of money, but not a job for the faint of heart. The extra fiddling around probably added an hour to an already difficult job...
Let's see now...
Electric fuel pump at tank(No Fuel)
Replaced pigtail wire to dif housing(No odometer,ABS and brake light on)
Replaced filter/heater(Bad leak, big smoke)
Replaced timing belt(As required two day job)
Replaced glo plugs with all steel Italian(nightmares thinking about ceramics)
Replaced thermostat(Running hot in summer, cold in winter)
Tape over check engine light(I know where the engine is)
EGR disconnect, hose to road draft(Nasty thing those EGR's)
After 4 1/2 years I'm starting to like this beast. It has personality, like my old english cars.
