Joined the bad glow plug club today

Got a CEL yesterday so took it in today. They said a bad glow plug (forgot to ask which one) and the plugs are on national back order, but he said they had 1 in stock.

Funny thing is it ran better and got better MPG on the overhead this morning on the way to the dealer then it has done in a long time.

I asked them to also look at the TSB 18-009, but we'll see if they do it.

Hmm, I joined this club the other day myself. #4 more specifically. Supposedly they ordered one and its suppose to be here in a few days. We'll who's right....

Welcome to the club! I lost #4 last week and I live in Houston where it's nice and warm. I didn't even think these things go on until 40 degrees or so.

I called today to check on the status of the glowplug that was to only take a 'couple of days' to get. Come to find out, they are on national backorder with 255 supposedly being delivered on March 30th. So, don't expect a replacement to show up until early April.

Maybe if you disconnect all 4, you'll get 50 mpg :-)

For all we know, these things are siphoning diesel on every stroke...

Hey Reggie,

I'm in Houston, too! I've only seen two other CRD's here in Houston. How about you?

Anyway, other than the CEL, what are some of the other signs of a glow plug going out?

on mine there were no other symptoms ... just the cel both times .. startup was same .. no smoke either time ...

So what is the code # on that GP. We have just popped a CEL and it reads P1140, but that doesn't ring a bell and I haven't seen that number anywhere on the internet.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I can look at the work order when I get home, but I don't think its on there.

Just came from dealer and it a vacuum reservoir boost solenoid switch. The engine runs fine and the turbo works great, so it probably a faulty code ot intermittent fault.

Update: Dealer called today and said my glow plug was in, so they should be distrubted to your dealers!

I haven't seen any other CRD's - mine is a black Limited. I didn't notice any difference in the way it runs when the glow plug was bad, but it doesn't get real cold here in Houston either. My CRD just joined the Bad EGR club as well and it still has an issue with the tranny.
