Hello all,

I have a 2005 CRD that I have had to do some work on due to age and mileage. lately it has started to not turn over for a couple times and then 2 days ago would not turn over at all you can hear it click but the starter will not turn. to me that sounds like the starter. Before I go buy one and replace it I want to know it if could be the starter relay or something else? I put my charger on the battery and it says it is fully charges and I tried the start boost setting to see if it would start same thing so I am pretty sure it is the starter or the relay. What do you all think.

thanks
Carl

First make sure your battery connections are clean and tight and check the strap earthing the engine to the chassis.

You can swap the starter relay over with a similar one next to it.

You should have the battery properly load-tested before replacing the solenoid to make sure it is OK. :)

FYI yesterday morning my wife started the Jeep, forgot something, so she shut it off and ran back inside. When she went back out, it would only click, but no crank. It was a dead battery. Lights, accessories, etc worked great, but the click sounded like a solenoid, or metal hitting metal. I had never had a battery die that way, so I was concerned that it was something worse. Nope. Just a dying optima. I have now realized how slowly the jeep was turning over with the old battery. Anyway. I read for about two hours before trying a battery and hope this can help someone.
