I've been looking into getting my intercooler hoses replaced, my Liberty currently has the hoses with the orange liner and they feel pretty soft and flismy. I have a bit of experience in the Turbo department on the gas side and I am surprised hard piping is not more popular especially with how dirty these run with the EGR and the hoses getting lined in oil. (I know most have them disabled) But with hard aluminum or steel pipes they could be removed and rinsed out with out worrying about rubber breaking down, the samco's seem like good hoses but they are still rubber and when they go you need a brand new hoses $$$. I read one post where the hard piping was knocked because you run more of a risk of leaking with couplers because of having double the connections. But this is not an issue if properly installed. I would rather worry about replacing a 10 dollar coupler than a 100.00 hose. So is any one running a hard intercooler piping??? Two things to think about: The Samco hoses aren't rubber, they are molded silicone with a braided core. Oil-proof. These engines flex a LOT in normal operation. The engine mounts are only laterally on either side, and under the transmission. That allows for a good deal of flexibility, added to which is that the front mounts are liquid-filled style. Metal tubing doesn't flex like this engine would need, which will put a lot of stress on your collars. In addition, the pathway of the hose is such that when the pressure increases (from the boost) the hose has room to expand and flex without hitting anything. Metal hoses will invariably get up against something, creating a noise source and possibly rattle-contact damage to whatever they are touching. The Samcos are a one-time purchase, I haven't heard of anyone needing to buy a second set unless they had a second CRD. If you don't like them, there is a vendor on Ebay called Mishimoto selling what looks to be a Samco knockoff silicone hose for our setup, for like $229 or so. Not for me, but they are out there. |
