You are having the same syptoms that I had a year ago at about 108,000 miles. It was a crank sensor going bad intermittantly. No trouble codes, just a lot of frustration

My 05 crd has been acting strange. I'm 2nd owner since 30k and now I'm at 112k, it wasn't starting so i bleed the fuel and now it starts cold but wont restart when warm. could the fuel head be the cause? Other ideas? Thanks for the help |

Well - congratulations! We picked ours up as the second owner at about 30k also.. Re: hot starts; It could be the air in fuel - have you seen any codes? (check-engine / MIL) If so, which ones? Have you changed the fuel filter lately? A filter nearing end-of-service life is restricted enough to make things worse. Any other history you think may be relevant? Unrelated, actually, but with that mileage - have you changed your timing belt yet? Have you installed an aftermarket fuel pump near the fuel tank? Have you cleaned the MAF and MAP sensors lately? Is the air filter clean? For the moment, we can go with 'air in fuel' but another cause for hot-start failures with advancing miles has been (on occasion) the crank position sensor. A slightly more remote possibility would be a leaking injector or fuel pressure regulator (end of rail). Mark |

i tinkered with it more and have came to the conclusion that it is not fuel related but the lower connection on the computer. i bleed out the fuel like crazy with no luck but during my tinkering i bumped the connection and it started. I called GDE and was told i could di electric grease the connections to see if it helps. I'm out on the road with my Peterbilt and will be back tomorrow to tinker more but any other help would be nice. I need to do my tb yet but am next from GDE for tool rental. Other than thermostat and motor mounts I've had no issues. My mods are ORM, Edge chip, 195 deg. thermostat, homemade provent and facet lift pump. I cleaned the map and air filter at my last service so please talk me off the ledge.... |

If that's the case, you can find electrical connector cleaner and dielectric grease at NAPA. When I did the T.B. I had to disconnect a lot of the harness to get it out of the way. Before reconnecting, I sprayed the electrical connectors with the cleaner, dried them off with compressed air, then applied a thin coat of the grease. I recommend the cleaner to help remove oxidation, before adding the dielectric grease. Be sure to use the stuff made for electronics, so that it won't harm the plastics, o-rings, etc. Mark |

well, I put a thin layer of di electric grease and I started it a bunch of times. Now, I tried to start it a few hours later and it won't start. I don't know how to inprove the connection more on the ECM? I'm running out of ideas... |

Any chance a wire in the harness is shorting on a sharp edge as it emerges from behind the fuel filter bracket? How does the connector look when you inspect it? Any sign of corrosion, overheating, etc? Are you able to pull off the connector cover to see if a wire is loose on the back side of the connector? You'll need the brightest light you can get, and perhaps a magnifying glass to examine the connectors... If something's loose, ya just gotta figure out the 'where'... Mark |

I finally got my hands on a scan tool and found out I had a bad cam sensor . All is right with the world now. |
