any thoughts on being "pro-active" and replacing the ceramic plugs ? Are they eventually going to break, or are the broken plugs isolated incidents? |

I also wondered whether proactive replacement made sense. I had one fail shortly after doing my timing belt and replaced all four with the 7v metal plugs. If you're worried about it I'd recommend doing it along with the timing belt. You're already pretty far in at that point so it's just a few more hoses, intake elbow, and fuel filter to move and you can easily swap the glow plugs. The parts aren't bad...I think it was about $140 for the plugs and a couple dollars for the intake elbow gasket. |

Lots of factors involved, like: - How many miles to you have and are you going to do it yourself or have it done at a trusted shop? - Are you in a climate where you have them get used a lot? If so, then replacement before the next winter might be a good plan. - Do you have a contingency for if one breaks in the process of the work so you're not stranded? I think they WILL wear out eventually, but you might not see that happen for a long time if you're in a warm climate. Dan |
