Hey guys!

So my Jeep is back from the dealership,and is probably fixed... Let me explain a little bit.


I left my CRD at the dealership 1 month ago to have the recall L27 done. The guy call me back and tell me that my transmission fluid needs to be replaced, so i said «ok, do it». Last week, my Trans Temp light went on while i was driving in town with many stop&go. The jeep smell burnt oil, the transmission still worked, but every gear was reaching the red line before upshifting. And the gear change was really rough.

So, back at the dealership, the transmission module has 7 codes in, they cleared them and went for a test drive. # codes went back on, P0871, P0868 and P0740. So the mechanic told me that the first step was replacing some metal filters in the transmission (90$ parts, 2,5 hours) and that it could not solve the problem. The next step is some solenoid pack or something. So i said ok to teh filters replacing and i have now my jeep back...

I dont know yet if the problem is solved because i need to be in a particular situation to have the transmission overheat, but i feel that the transmission is working better.

What do you think of that? Anyone else experienced something like this?

The dealer most likely caused the problem when they "changed" your tranny fluid. The way a lot of them do it now is with a machine that hooks up by the lines that go to the radiator and back flush the old fluid out with new fluid. All of the crap that was lodged in the little cracks and the filter come out and get into places where you dont want it to be. Be careful if machanics that want to "service" your transmission. One of the dealers in my area actually got rid of their machine because it caused problems. :JEEPIN:

I supposed that it is not possible to prove that...


because now, they changed some filters and the problem is still there... so 550$CAD out the window...

I just requested a flush and filter change from my dealer at 109k because I've never had the fluid or filters serviced. When he found out I'd never had it touched before he said he wouldn't perform the full flush. He only drained the pan and changed the filters because of what Ted15 said. They get too many customers coming back in needing serious trans work because if disturbed sludge and particle problems.

You may have that problem if they tried this method.

Could there be clogged lines or trans cooler? I'm trying to think of what would cause the fluid to heat up.

That's the ONLY way I'd let anyone service my tranny. That flush machine can screw up a new one. It's just an inexpensive way to do expensive service. It doesn't cost the customer any less though. I knew a guy that offered that service in his shop and I watched it done. Real cheasey considering the cost of the service.
The tranny can be flushed when the pan and filters are removed but not with reverse flow. Usually it isn't necessary though, no more than flushing your engine for an oil change.

A tranny rebuild is only about $1200.00, just sayin. A good tranny shop can do wonders, usually more than the dealer but not always and the nickle dime stuff can kill your wallet.
Can't say I blame ya for trading it in, I probably would too.

i guess not, but the next step seem to be the solenoid pack replacement, which i doubt will solve the problem...

How much time should i consider for a tranny rebuilt??

I don't know but it's possible that some other damage has resulted by reversing the flow of the fluid. I only assumed that it would be a clog but by calling a transmission specialist, I'm sure they could answer that.
As far as a rebuild goes, I had one done about fifteen years ago for about $1200.00. I worked for a service company that had a fleet of ford vans and they would have them rebuilt for somewhere around $1500.00.
Recently, I received a letter from Chrysler telling me not to have that service done. I'm sure the dealer got the same notice, maybe if you were to call mopar and ask them what to do they could give you guidance. Hopefully, they make the dealer fix it at no charge :D

The letter you are talking about is something that tells you not to have the transmission fluid replacement done?

I'll try to write to Mopar, i have nothing to lose..!

I can't remember the exact wording but it was something to that effect. That and no chemicals that aren't authorized by mopar like cleaners and solvents. I think they were referring to some of the cleaners for the airflow sensor. I'll try to find it but you may find the info from mopar before I do.
I mentioned that to the dealer where I bought mine after they mentioned it, at 15,000 miles, and they never brought it up again. But I've been doing my own maintenance since it quit snowing lol.
