| Post subject: | 2005 CRD OIL ISSUES |
OK so my late June build CRD that I got in Sept. has an issue with going thru lots of oil. At 2700 miles it was almost off the dipstick low so had the dealer top it off, then at 5000 miles the same and again at 6000 miles. This was all at the dealer. Now it is at 11900 and same spot, but it did last longer (mind you they overfilled it last time- it won't hurt comment made). Now the last two times I got the CRD back with the reminder sticker in the window for 3k miles... Each time pointed out that the change interval was 12.5k and asked the ast. svc. manager if he was sure they used the right oil because the sticker tells me the guy knew nothing about the CRD. I was assured it was but they are "used" to writting 3k. So today when I dropped it off I had them check the oil SKU on the previous work orders againts the actual oil, of course they have been using 15W40. I have had no other issues with the CRD and solid mileage (24-26mpg at 75-80 mph) My question is what if any issues would the wrong oil have caused? Will engine life be affected? I have this all documented and of course the dealer will call me later today. What would you folks do. Oh yeah, it it still keeps on going thru oil like crazy it will be lemon lawed. I bought the CRD as I'm a regional sales manager on the road for 40-50K a year and do not want to worry about the darn thing breaking down, My truck was at 178K and 5 years old so felt it was time. The week after I got te CRD my old truck ended up getting a new engine with a 3 year/unlimited miles warranty so I've actually been using it more because of the oil consumption on the CRD... |

The 15W-40 is NOT the required synthetic. I suspect this plays a large part in your oil consumption. However, I have consumed 1/2 of a quart of oil in my last 6000 miles (Shell Rotella T 5W-40 Synthetic), but I'm only at 7800 miles. My build date is late June as well. |

Not to mention the blow by oil in the intercooler etc. I live in central GA so it hasn't been that cold (32 on cold nights) and starting has never been a issue. That is why I'm asking for views. Best, Chris PS- Been lurking here for awhile now, all the information is great! |

Just keep driving it. I'm up to 16000 miles and my oil use has gone down every oil change. Seems to be a breaking in thing to me. Wes |

Wes I hope it's a breaking in issue. Otherwise, instead of an oil consumed topic, this may actually be an "oil relocated to the intercooler and beyond" topic. |

Humm... didn't think about that. I've had the provent installed for the past 8000 miles. Wes |
