Post subject:  Who has over 100K? Over 200K? What oil/filters/schedule?

Alright, with all of the oil debates, I figured we should see who has over 100K or 200K or more. Please post how many miles, what brand and weight oil you have been using, and what brand oil filters have been used. Also, if you have had an engine internal mechanical failure of any part of the internal engine, i.e. rod thrown, bearings wiped, rings bad, etc. that may or may not have been a result of the engine oil, please also note that. Lastly, please state how many miles you go between oil changes, and if anyone has any oil analysis reports from the CRD, that would be helpful as well.

Example using my own CRD:

I have 79K currently. From 0-47K, it had dealer oil changes, which were 0w40 Mobil 1 up until Chrysler went to Pennzoil Ultra 5w40. Not sure when that occurred. Oil changes were every 3-6K I think. When I got it at 47K, I changed the oil with Mobil 1 5w40 up until 73K. I used Pure One (Purolator) PL25230 oil filters every 4500 miles/1.5 months. Since 73K, I have been using Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic at 4-5K intervals using the same Purolator P1 filter. No internal engine trouble to date.

Next few oil changes will be with Mobil 1 0w40 and P1 oil filters. If the Blackstone test kit arrives in time, I will try to get a sample of the RT6 5w40 off for analysis, and will do the same with M1 0w40 during the 2nd oil change with M1 so that the test results are fairly accurate. Again, that is if all goes according to plan.

Lastly, see my other post regarding comparing the factory Mopar oil filter and the Purolator PL25230 oil filter.

108k, change oil every 8k-10k miles, Rotella 5W-40 T6. Usually Purolator oil filters. No analyses, no failures to date.

115K - followed Owners manual

filters - Wix/Purolator/Napa...Mopar..

problems were under warranty and blamed on manufacture - not maintenance.

Please be more specific: what brand and weight oil? What problems? If they are not internal engine problems or turbo problems, they need not be mentioned. Thanks.

Mobil 1 0-40 or 5-40...

no internal engine/turbo problems at all.

161,800. 0w40m1 in winter (approx) and 5w40m1 in summer. Purolator1 filters. Change air & oil filters at same time. No known internal issues. Change every 10k to keep it simple.

Rotella 5W-40 T6 wixs every 3000 miles 150000 miles no motor or turbo . I do plug it in winter time. I have a Green Diesel tune now might start going to 5000 miles. The oil is so much cleaner no more soot. Highly recommend the Tune from Keith

I have 122K on the CRD currently. From 0-85K I can only assume that it had oil changes at the dealer; When I bought it at 85K, it had a Mopar filter. Given the relatively small town where it was purchased, and given that the oil is quite specific and not always easy not find, it is quite likely that all services were done at the dealer

From 85K until current, I have used Amsoil 5W-40 European Car Formula, code AFL. I have used various filters from Mopar, Mann and currently Purolater Pure One, P/N PL25230. I also have used an Amsoil engine/transmission flush at every oil change.

I have had the GDE Full-Torque Eco Tune since the beginning of my ownership.

To my knowledge, all of the hard parts for my engine are original. The only major service that I have performed is the timing belt which included the associated tensioner and idler pulleys, water pump and thermostat. These were changed at 100,030 miles.

In my opinion, the key to a diesel engine's longevity are these: 1) Proper oil and filter changed at the appropriate intervals. 2) Proper air and fuel filter change intervals too; quality filters here too. 3) Good sources of diesel fuel, i.e. high volume truck stops come to mind. 4) An "Italian Tune-Up" weekly or so to keep the soot buildup inside the engine and exhaust side of the turbo to a minimum.

I have just recently read, from the Blackstone Labs website, that a common reason for diesel engine failure is engine coolant contamination of the oil. I am soon to do my first oil analysis on this engine. Given the results, I may be soon looking into the changing of the oil cooler. Hope this helps.

Do not have over 100,000 miles.
79,000 miles, have used Mopar or Napa/Wix filters, oil 0w-40 Mobil One European, changed every 3000 miles or every 3 months. This has been since new. No engine or turbo issues. One EGR valve replaced.

My CRD has 112,000 miles on it. Up until this past December/January it had only seen 0w-40 Mobil 1 European formula oil. Early on the filters were dealership filters. When I started changing the oil (after my wife and I met.....she had it already when we met) I used purolater filters. This past December/January I switched to Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT oil and the Mobil 1 M1-301 oversize filter. I have not had any mechanical issues with the engine or the turbo (that I know of LOL). I have had 2 oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs. I'll scan them and then post them so ya'll can see what they had to say. The first was with the 0w-40 and the second was with the 5w-40 (although the first one with the 0w-40 was right after I had a split in my boost hose and it could have let in some contaminants).

Just passed 160k on ours, used the recommended Mobil-1 0-40 since we bought it at just under 30k.

Engine and turbo still seem to be working well - good mileage and oil consumption normal.

115k miles as of today. I was doing 10k OCIs but now am down to 5k in winter and 7.5k in summer.

Spring/Summer: Shell Rotella T6
Fall/Winter: Mobil 1 5w40

To the individual who admitted to using Amsoil AFL. That spec oil is intended to use in engines with diesel particulate filters. It has a lower TBN and less anti-wear additives that are proven to work. I would strongly recommend NOT using a low SAP oil such as AFL unless you have to due to a DPF.

Just about 100k Now. Purchaced 11-08 with 39k. I and 1st owner use only Mobil 1 0w-40. Filter's have been oem & Mobil 1. Change the oil before 7000 mile. At 93k the timing belt jumped causing several rocker arms to break and damaged the exhaust cam. Replaced all rocker's, lifter's and new cam. Other than that no other internal engine issues.

115k miles.
Oil changes @3-15k miles, buy Wix filters by the case, air oil and fuel. Primaily Rotella 5-40 synthetic
Only oil consumption between changes is only when I tow like a foo (too fast, heavy weight)
No problems I have not caused.
Cool down the turbo when you get her sweatie (hot).

Ok guys....here is a scan on my oil analysis. The first one (the 4th column from the left dated 12/11) was the first one with 0w-40 and just after my split boost hose. The second one (2nd column from the left) was with 5w-40 TDT.
