Hey Guys, So I got a CEL the other day and I pulled these two codes: P0700-TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM (MIL REQUEST) P0725 - Engine Speed Input Circuit ...there is not change in how the CRD is running, though. What's going on d'you suppose? -P |

Go to http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/ and download copies of BOTH the 05 and 06 FSMs (the 05 lacks cooling data and diagnostics but has illustration keys while the 06 is the reverse). Run a search on the codes. Looks to me like P0700 just says a tranny code is stored and it may go away after 3-4 drive cycles of several miles. P0725 appears to be an engine rpm out of range (high/low) not a tranny code although it may have set a tranny code but the FSM says a P0725 reading for longer than 2-10 seconds would put you in limp mode. If the vehicle is running ok you may have a bogus code set. That said if you have the tranny fluid drain back problem it can set codes so ? did the vehicle stall or drive weird briefly after 1st startup recently? If so that's the problem. Check your tranny fluid level, if low add, if ok see if CEL goes away after some drive cycles, if so consider changing tranny fluid and filters. |

papaindigo wrote: That said if you have the tranny fluid drain back problem it can set codes I believe this is what's going on--the vehicle drives & shifts fine, but every once in a while (like every three weeks or so) I get that weird "won't go into gear" problem or "tranny shudder when stopping after going fifty feet when cold" problem. I am going to fix the check valve when it's truly necessary to replace the torque converter. My ATF fluid level is fine & the fluid and filter were changed in March of 2011, about 10K miles ago. Now, that being said, the CEL went on after my first day at new work location--a location that has parking guys moving cars around the lot all day. I suspect that one of the guys just fired the CRD up & immediately put it into gear to move it without letting things warm up a little--he probably realized that the car wasn't moving so he gave it a little throttle and BAM, the trans engages. Probably threw a code... I will continue to monitor and update. |
