Hey guys I'm new to a crd (have read the noob guide) but know my way around a diesel. I was just curious if anyone else's computer says they are getting better mileage then they really are? My display say's I average 29-31mpg but I calculate it every time I go to the pump and it is always right around 24.5... I thought it was odd and wanted to know if anyone else had this going on? I searched the forum and didn't find anything but if there is another post about this a link would be great! Thanks for your input!

You can totally trust the computer. 100% accurate...

Once more at this windmill. Nothing special about the CRD odometer, speedometer and/or EVIC or ones on any other company's vehicles they all have varing levels of error depending on a host of factors including any tire size different from OEM. Odometers and speedometers are by federal law, IIRC, supposed to be within +-4-5% of accurate but as far as I know EVICs have no standard of accuracy and can vary in a totally different direction from the odometer. IIRC a dealer scan tool can do some slight correction to the odometer and speedometer but I don't know about the EVIC. The old GDE tune really throw the EVIC off but the current GDE tune substantially reduces that error at least on an 05. FYI my 05 odometer is very close but my son's is not. To add to the joy the speedometer and odometer errors may be in different directions and independent of the EVIC.

Confused, welcome to the wonderful world of fly by wire and computer controls. Best fix I know of is a nice straight flat highway run of 25-50 miles with a GPS to check and develop corrections for speedometer and odometer and then use the odometer correction to figure mpg and ignore the EVIC which is what I do, although the EVIC tire pressure seems quite accurate.

Just for chuckles we once got pulled over for speeding (80 or so in a 55mph zone) in a Chevrolet Chevette because the state motor pool had helpfully installed oversize tires, which thankfully the trooper noticed after all 3 of us indicated a willingness to go to court as we had just been discussing the oddity of passing everyone when the speedometer indicated 55 mph.

My odo is about 9% off. My speedo with the original TCM was about 4mph off and with the ram TCM is about 2mph off at 60.

This is normal. Another piece of stellar Chrysler engineering. Maybe some bozo decided to use Imperial rather than US gallons  after all, the conversion factor is 1.2 which is eerily close to the error most report in the EVIC (30/24.5 = 1.22). Coincidence?

Speedo is high and odo is low. The cynic in me could accuse the Chrysler lawyers of insisting it is this way to cover their asses and minimise the possibility of any lawsuits.

Thanks for all the great info guys! My old Ford never even had a average MPG so I never knew that the computer would be so far off. I figured it was just another way to make the CRD seem like it get finominal millage. :-)r

Nice photo "KaspinCRD".
Thanks for this post...........
I have had this happen several times after we did the FT ECO tune. It happened the first time when I filled the tank right to the cap which some say you shouldn't do. I didn’t think about the connection till I saw this post. I had never had this 99.9 mi/gal reading before. I'm not sure why it never did this before.
They say the EVIC has poor logic in the computer and will never be very accurate. But 99.9 mi/gal is a long ways from not very accurate.

After I drove a ways & shut down it had gone back to normal when I started up again. I was concerned my fuel sensor was going as the fuel gauge didn't seam to be dropping either. Running out of fuel in a diesel is a real pain. :(
