When I replaced my spare I had the same problem and the only way I could find to resolve the issue was to go to the dealer to have its ID programmed in with a STAR scan system. Mine is an '06 Limited.

I screwed up my factory sensor in the spare and installed this Dorman, it still says spare low even after a ride over 10 minutes long with no stopping? DORMAN Part # 974001, could it be I got a bad sensor? I filled the tire to 33PSI? Maybe the tire needs to spin?

So did you try and mount the spare on an axle and go for the 10 minute ride to resolve the issue?

Yes I did swap out the spare with one of the wheels on the rear axle (actually tried both rear wheel positions) but still no luck in getting it to properly register in the system. Finally hooked up with one of the techs at a local dealership who properly programmed the spare into the system and all has been good.

There is only one transponder for the rear axle, it is on the right side, the front has one on each side, I am going to put the tire on the front since each transmitter is read, and I will let you know how it goes.

So here is the outcome, I moved the spare to the front right side and moved the FR tire to spare position and it still displayed low press spare?

What a stupid design, my Sprinter never complains when I added a new TPMS to the spare and rotated it around.

Since I hate being at the mercy of dealers, I took the old TPMS sensor that I broke, and soldered the wire back to the screw on the stem, put it in the spare, then I had low tire pressure and the low tire light on the cluster illuminated as well. :x

Disgusted, I drove the Jeep into the garage for the night and thought, I am going to have to visit the dealer. :banghead:

So today in a last ditch effort I thought go for the 10 minute ride and see what happens, well it all cleared in less then 10 minutes, so I stopped, powered off, removed the key, put it back in and ta da! No more problems.

So the sensor is going back to Rock Auto, in the future I hope to have the TPMS system disabled, as it is just another feature for idiots that never check things, or can not figure out why their vehicle develop a pull to the left of the right all of a sudden. :5SHOTS:

I've found for a perfectly good aftermarket sensor that will self program is the Dorman 974-001 - $24 Amazon, $31 Summit Racing.

So this is $24 EACH ... one would have to order at least 4 of these.

Is this still the best deal for replacing the TPM sensors? How do you get the spare to read correctly? Does the tire have to be driven to learn?

As far as I know it's the best deal although I've seen scattered reports of issues. Best I can say is stoutdog had one installed (cost ca. $10 for the install at a local tire place in Tempe) to replace a bad OEM sensor (IIRC in a tire on the ground) and the system recognized it after a short drive.

Why is there two evics. Is it just random that some people have one that display pressure and others only display the warning or Was it part of an option like maybe the sunroof since that adds the switch to the evics?

I am running a spare with no TMPS. The jeep warned me for a day or two and then gave up. I haven't had a spare warning in months.

Warning Warning the Dorman+974-001 TPM sensors from amazon DON'T work on 2006 Jeep Liberty CRDs! The tire dealers are saying this and there is even reports on the amazon site of the problem. I replaced all of mine with these, they send out the signal they just can't program the computer to read them. I don't know why this isn't being reported here before others waste their money! :banghead:

stoutdog replaced a failed OEM sensor on his 06 several years ago (IIRC like 4). It learned after a short drive and is still working fine.
