I replaced my damper with a new one for a Duramax 2.8L. It is not a direct bolt on. I made a steel adapter to allow the Duramax damper to bolt on to the 2.8L CRD crank. It has been working great and if the rubber ever dies, I can just buy another from the Chevy dealer being they are supporting that engine. It looks factory and uses the stock belt and no other changes needed. It had been on there for about two years now and was around $70 bucks for a brand new one.

I am sure many on here would like to see more details, even a photo or 2 would be good.
Was it just a sleave, or did the bolt holes need to be changed?

Got any drawings of the adaptor you can share?

It's a machined plate just under 1/2" thick. I have pictures of it from start to finish, just have to find them and post them. I made it on a 8"X16" lathe and a mill, it is actually quite a simple piece, just very precisely made, picture a small version of a wheel adapter. I knew the 2.8 Duramax was just the newer version of our 2.8L CRDs and took a chance and ordered in a balancer, timing belt sprocket and new damper bolts for the Duramax 2.8L. You can't use the timing belt sprocket for the Duramax, they changed the width of the timing belt, and if I remember right, won't fit on the crankshaft snout, it's too loose, so you use the original timing belt sprocket for our 2.8 CRD. The bolt circles on the dampers are also different diameters, which actually works great for making the adapter work. The outer diameter where the belt rides is the same so it uses the factory serpentine belt and nothing has to be changed to use it.

Our brains trust (wwdiesel) is probably following this with interest.
I suspect the Duramax is like a RA428. They are used in the KK & Dodge Nitro.
With a little luck, there will soon be adapters on the market.
Maybe the trick will be to have a damper with adapter attached.

I opened a Google photo account trying to post pictures, but can't seem to get them to show up here. I can post the address as a hyperlink so the adapter can be seen.

One very important thing to remember when using image tags: the image you display must already be available on the internet (it cannot exist only on your computer or mobile device for example, unless you have it shared on a webserver!).

After joining PostImage or one of the *other picture hosting services and uploading your pictures to the site that you want to share:

Instructions to post a picture:

Click on the "IMG" button on the top of your post.

You will get this: [img]-[/img]
Then paste the URL link for your picture in between the BBC code tags:
Code:
[img]picture address goes here[/img]

Should look something like this: [url>=https://web address "link" of shared picture<[/img][/url]

Well, crap. The links worked when I previewed them, I will try what you showed.

Side view:

Back view:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/WEDXsc2aCjmgPKG78

Front view:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/4inov5vqqosGN7EcA

When I preview, I still see no picture, just the word "Image". On Google Photo, I clicked on "Share" and "Create a link". I copied the link and pasted it between the brackets after clicking on [img], the preview showed no picture just the word "Image", so I tried creating a hyperlink. I even tried dropping the "s" off of "https:", but it doesn't seem to work so I put it back. Hopefully the links from "Create a link" will work if the pictures won't show up. I tried these links, and they work, but the last links worked for me too.

Your example "[url>=https://web address "link" of shared picture<[/img][/url]" didn't work either, I tried it on the last picture. I must be doing something wrong, I just don't what.

Why does it always say that my post has to be approved before it can be posted? Is this because I haven't posted enough yet, or does it do that for everybody?

The problem is; Google links to the photos are not being shared as pictures, i.e. jpeg, png, tiff, pdf, gif, etc...
I cleaned up your links to the photos which will work by clicking on the links, they just will not show up as pictures in your post, only hot links.

I will upload the front view one of the pictures to my photo sharing provider, (https://postimg.cc) stored as a "jpeg" and post it so you can see it does work. See below!

As to the approval process, we do this to try and keep out spammers. Once a new member has shown to be legit, posts approval is not required.
I will update your status.

The Duramax 2.8L timing belt sprocket is on the left, our 2.8L CRD timing belt sprocket is on the right, notice the difference of the bolt circles. Also notice the center of the 2.8L CRD timing belt sprocket on the right, this bump out is what centers the damper. The Duramax 2.8L damper centers itself around the outside of the Duramax 2.8L timing belt sprocket. The centering of the damper at these two points with the adapter is crucial to make sure there is no runout and therefore no wobble.

Image

Our 2.8L CRD timing belt sprocket is on the left this time, the Duramax 2.8L timing belt sprocket is on the right.

The Duramax 2.8L damper is on top of our 2.8L CRD damper in this pic.

This is a pic of my adapter mounted to our 2.8L CRD timing belt sprocket.
Image

This is a pic of my adapter mounted to the new Duramax 2.8L damper, notice the new Duramax 2.8L mounting bolts do not stick thru the adapter and interfere with the fit.
Image

This is a front pic of the new Duramax 2.8L damper bolted to my adapter.
Image

I made this adapter in December of 2020 when I replaced the timing belt, water pump, etc. The damper runs true and uses the factory serpentine belt with no other changes needed.

Thanks again to WWDiesel for showing me how to post pictures and lifting the approval process of being able to post, I would have shared earlier, but with having to wait for approval on posting, I just kept putting it off.

I wish I could make some of them, but unfortunately I do not possess the necessary equipment to produce the adaptor he made. It requires a metal lathe, a milling machine along with precise drilling equipment to produce the adaptor with its precise fitment requirements.
Hopefully or maybe Rattlin' KJ will produce some of them and offer them to the Jeep CRD community.

If Rattlin' KJ is willing to provide me with his design, I can have these manufactured for those interested. I can also source the Duramax 2.8L damper and the bolts and whatever else is needed, and offer as a kit.

I truly hope this works out.
There are probably other applications for this.
Good Luck !!!
