Alright next week I am moving to Alaska and i am towing a 6x12 uhaul trailer. I dont have my owners manual so I am not sure if I should tow with the over drive on or off. I know some brands of trucks say yes some say not to. Anyone know what jeep recommends?

I towed a 24' TT in OD. I drove about 55 so it stood in 4th.

I tow a 7'x12' concession trailer that weighs just under 4,000 pounds when not stocked for use. Generally..... if I am on somewhat flat road and the transmission is not hunting for a gear and constantly downshifting....I'll leave it on. Once I hit a decent hill or the transmission starts hunting.....I'll hit the button and lock out the overdrive. It makes a tremendous difference on getting up the hits and grades. I will usually be proactive on the transmission hunting for a gear by kicking out the overdrive before I get to a hill.

OD off when towing and keep the speeds down.

Statement from Jeep:

The “D” Overdrive range can be selected when towing.
However, if frequent shifting occurs select the
“O/D Off” function or move the shift lever to the next
lower position to eliminate excessive automatic transmission
shifting. This action will also reduce the
possibility of transmission overheating and provide
better engine braking. Refer to “Transmission Shifting”
in this section for additional information.

Im sure it all depends on the load you tow, but i would use OD untill it starts shifting alot. Going as far as you are not using OD may be worse.

When stoutdog and I did the run from Tempe, Az to Tallahassee with a fully loaded CRD, kayak on top, pulling a fully loaded 5X8 Uhaul (say 2000+ lbs) we just ran with overdrive on the whole way mostly at 62-65 or occasionally 70mph. Keep in mind though the I-10 is the flatest interstate in the country and we soon found that it was best to not rely on cruise control when approaching hills as there would be a wicked downshift part way up; best to use your foot to build up some extra speed before the hill. Other than that no issues with engine or tranny temp at all and an average of 22 mpg corrected (stoutdog's 06 has the GDE EcoTune and TCM tune plus Kaps tstat mod with a 195F tstat in it)
