Decided to remove fan for winter and found these leaks. I'll take it to the car wash to get things clean enough to make sure only the hose ends are leaking. The FSM calls these quick-connects (they work as well the the fuel line quick connects near the fuel tank) and recommends special tool for removal. It sounds like what they describe is similar to an AC hose removal tool, which I have.
Does anyone know if the connectors can be made to stop leaking? I read a thread that used screw type hose clamps (Cherokee), and another KJ thread where the guy paid major bucks to a dealer to remove elec. fan, cooler, replace lines, etc, etc.
The radiator return hose is oily along with the sway bar (very oily. . . or would it be fluidy???) The oil spots seem to be located near the leaky connectors. Again, I'll clean things up and should know more.
BTW, the third time removing the fan was easy. . . due to the anti-seize on the threads.
PS Just got back from car wash. The top of the left hose is leaking where the metal connector was crimped (dirty looking one). That's the end the Cherokee was fixed by clamping, so it said. The other hose is leaking at the quick connect into the cooler. I pried the dust cap off it and the end wiggled around like it wasn't connected by anything. It felt like it would come out with a gentle tug. So, each hose is leaking. . . at opposite ends making replacement of both hoses necessary to stop the leak. I'll see what the transmission ends of them look like tomorrow. Hmmm. . .
