I have a clunk sound when I take off from a stop. The clunk sound also occurs when I come to a complete stop right when the wheels stop moving. The U-joints all seem to be fine. Can't see anything that is loose. The jeep has 140,000 on the odo. The clunk will also occur if I accelerate or decelerate especially around town. Also, not sure if this is related but last week everyday when taking off after the engine is cold it felt like the transmission would slip and then engage and then slip again. Felt like someone was pushing in and out on the clutch if it were a manual transmission. Problem went away after a few days. The clunk however has been around for about 20,000 miles and seems to be getting worse. Any thoughts on what it may be or how to find it? |

Clunk could be motor mounts, drive shaft slip joint, "U" joints (nearly impossible to check on vehicle), upper/lower swing arms. Tranny - when was it serviced and was the service done with ATF+4? |

Can't tell if it is front or back I feel it under my feet though. It happens after the power is already applied to the driveline so prob not a u joint. Control arms are perfect. Just replaced front and rear control arm joints. |

Take a look at http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... t/115.page for some help. The driver's side is supposed to be a bit harder but that's mainly because of access issues not "technical" problems. FYI the L/R mounts are identical except the R mount (passenger side in US) has a heat shield. That shield is removable so save yourself a few $s and buy the cheaper mount and swap the heat shield if you need to replace the R mount. |

I had the same noise and went away with the replacement of motor mounts and greasing of the slip yoke. not sure which one cured it but it did went away.
