We have a CRD as well as a TDi and I found this thread over on the TDi forums

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=87948

I did a search and found a couple references to filling the fuel filter with DP when changing it but nothing like what they are showing in the TDi thread. Is there something like that posted here that I just can't find?

Thanks

Seems a little radical for my taste. That said there are some posts on this forum about doing a fuel filter change and filling the new filter with straight Diesel Kleen or 50/50 DK and fresh (not recycled from the old filter) diesel for the first startup. For myself I just add some Diesel Kleen every 1K miles or so and don't worry about it. Oh and buy brand name fuel from places that sell a lot of diesel so I'm pretty sure I'm getting relatively new and clean fuel.

I agree there is no need. Change the fuel filter as needed. Breaking into CRD fuel lines lets air in. They do not have a lift pump in the tank. Prob would not start.

Pouring anything into a new filter has risks of dirt getting in doing way more harm then good :grim:
Why not just get into the habit of adding the product of your choosing to the tank before every fill up

As Fragile as the CP3 is, I wouldn't chance getting any contamination into the fuel system. I never pre-fill. Just change the filter, run the lift pump to purge air and go.
