Hey all, been following for a few weeks, second post here.

2005 crd liberty with a small lift and 32's with 85000 miles.

Long story short the crd was up for auction soon in a dealers lot but we wanted it, so the dealer agreed to fix all the "problems" before we drove it off of the lot.

Three days later now, we still don't know what was wrong with it, but the dealer called and said it won't be done before monday. Per their inspection before determining they didn't want to fix it, they estimated 2600$ in their cost to repair it, in just parts. Today they called and said so far they have spent $4500 in just parts on it so far, and that it is basically going to be brand new drive train and engine. So far they have replaced the turbo completely, and a new transfer case.

When we go pick it up with our 2 hour drive, and knowing that the transfer case and turbo are brand new, and other parts, and expecting that the dealer is actually going to fix everything they find, what do you all recommend I go a look at before agreeing to take it home with me?

I'm guessing they have to legally do all the recall work to it too, but new torque converter, turbo and transfer case = how much of 4500 in parts only? They said part cost, no labor for their amount.

I figured this is the right area to post...

Welcome to LOST.

Sounds like a lot of work. Turbos go for 1100 to 1200. Not sure about the other stuff.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people here. You have found yourself a great resource.

Where are you located? Is it a Jeep dealer? Dealers are not above throwing expensive parts at a CRD when they don't know what to do.

A common solution is new turbo. Once in a while, one is actually needed. I do not recall reading a post about transfer case problems, unless it was in conjunction with other drive train problems.

I'd get far away from that thing. Jeep dealers can pull up the service history. They will print it out, although their willingness to cooperate deteriorates quickly after they have your money.

I'm almost at 100k mile service, and haven't experienced any of the problems you mention. Neither did the PO.

BTW, what are 32's? I'm used to 31 or 33 inch tires commonly used on 15in Jeep wheels. Maybe I can learn something new?

Maybe they are just 33's then. I didn't read the xxx/xx/r16 number well.

Hahaha already paid for :)

They wanted to get it off the lot because it was just going to recoup losses at an auction in a few weeks.

For their asking price, they agreed to fix it. It has to pass state inspection for nevada. It's chapmans jeep chrysler on the 515.
It's got a 3 year everything-warranty too so no real issues there.

When i was under it the transfer case had a blown front seal to the front axle, so with the repair cost so far 4500-turbo(1200)-transfer seals (200?) there is still 3100$ of work in parts they have done. I dont mind if it comes home with a new motor! :)

Maybe new hoses and everything. It was throwing codes when we started it up and drove it, but it sounded good actually.

I guess I will report back with the list of stuff they fixed!

New Motor for the 2.8L VM CRD is $5500. If you want a comparison, the Gasser is $1800. Both come with a 3 year warranty.
