I have a 2005 Liberty CRD with the Euro TC, GDE ECO-FT, In-Tank Lift Pump, Steel Glow Plug Conversion. Its a great truck.

My company, IDParts.com, has been a VW TDI specialty shop for more than 7 years. I have found it frustrating how hard it is to get parts for the CRD, especially in comparison to how easy it is to get VW TDI parts.

So, I've decided to do something about it. I care about my CRD and I want to be sure I can find the parts I need in the future. I've been using my connections to try and get parts for my truck over the years and now I hope stock and offer some of this stuff to other CRD owners. It has been tough - I don't know my way around the Mopar catalogue as well as I'd like.

Right now I have an aftermarket Timing Belt Kit (OEM Tensioner and Water Pump will be upgrade options coming), Filter Kits, Oil Kits & Bosch rebuilt injectors on the site. We have a relationship with Koni so I'm considering stocking Koni suspensions for the KJ as well.

I know I'm pushing the regulations with this thread so I'm not going to do any other advertising outside of the vendor section. My hope with this thread is to get some feedback as to what people need, are having trouble finding or can only find stuff at outrageous prices. Hopefully if I can get enough volume so that I can go to the good brands and reliable supply of parts directly from the manufacturers.

Thanks
corey@idparts.com

One-stop shopping for the 100k mile service would be nice. You could consider also offering the tools for rent as a benefit of purchasing the 100k kit?

What would be nice is increased confidence that the parts chosen were of proven quality and reliability and priced appropriately (doesn't have to be the lowest to the penny when compared to junk); I think all any of us want is comparable quality and performance to OEM at a significant discount over the dealer.

And of course, availability.

Then, we're set! :CAMPING:

Good luck

Mark

Agreed - I'm working on that. I'm being stonewalled by a lot of suppliers though. Good brands like Gates, Conti etc. have OE quality belts. Nice rollers from & Litens tensions are also "made" but its hard to convince a supplier to carry it. We sell a lot of kits for the TDI models, so I'm using the volume pull we have with the TDI products to try and get suppliers to bring this stuff in just for us.

TB Tool Kit Rental I am not sure about. We've "lost" a few tool sets over the years in the TDI community so we stopped offering it. Based on what I've read GDE is also currently missing their loaner kit. I don't want to offer a "Service" that I can't actually fulfill because another customer is holding onto the tools. Rather, I'm looking to see if I can get a custom toolkit made perhaps more cheaply so anyone could just purchase it.

The kit was just a thot - GDE has been great to supply them (I've got one now I'm preparing to return!) at an excellent price. :SOMBRERO:

Lasertools in the UK makes a kit for the CRD, it's just not readily available in the US. http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=702&item=7127 Technically it's listed for the 2.5, but all of the pins have the same VM#s, so I believe it would work for the 2.8. You might consider talking to them about importing it. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the camshaft locking tool; however, there are other ways to do the job.

I took a look at the site and noticed that you have a crown thermostat listed. From the reading I have done here I have never seen anything but OEM for the thermostats. The inline I'm currently using cost about $11 shipped but the crown at $66 + shipping isn't that much more for something that may not trash my head gasket this summer.

Anyone have experince with the crown thermostat? (Can't be worse than the factory one that failed after 70000mi, right?)

Thanks Corey!! I love idparts and have ordered many thousands of dollars worth of parts over the years for mine, my family's and clients TDIs. The service has always been perfect, never a problem and when I've goofed up orders they've fixed them for me ASAP!
I honestly recommend idparts to everyone with a TDI, I'd be willing to bet about 90% of the orders from the lower half of Mississippi are from people I recommend (not many TDIs in MS!)

I'm currently looking for suspension parts. Something like the A4 front end refresh kit would be great!

Looking forward to seeing more parts available since I just bought a CRD!

This is great news!

IDparts is very well respected in the TDI community. I have used them for several years and know the owner personally. A BIG thumbs up from me :) !

Corey please give my regards to Peter.

Thanks,
Steve

I just reached 70K this week. I am hoping for a good source for the needed parts when the time draws nearer for me. I am already thinking about squirreling away some money and maybe some parts for the job soon.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. That was really nice to read. CRD owners are very similar to TDI owners (more hands-on, mechanically skilled, tech savvy) so its no wonder that many TDIers are now CRDers as well.

Regarding the Crown thermostat: it is in a test vehicle right now. The installation went perfectly and it is currently functioning as it should. I can't speak to longevity yet.

Oh, and a quick word on availability - IDParts stocks everything we sell, so 95% of stuff is here for same-day shipping. I don't see the point in listing stuff for sale that isn't a stocked item, though lots of shops do that now.

Crown - I read that one thread from a member who experienced premature failure but I haven't heard of any others having problems. So I'm testing it myself & I gave a few to some shops around the country that do CRD work. The shops gave positive reviews of the components.

I've got the OEM pumps on order which I'll have in the kit for an upgrade cost ($112 more). I can't find any other suppliers/brands for these. I'd love to get a Graf/Geba pump.

cevans, thanks for offering this parts selection to us CRD owners. I hope your venture turns out well for all parties.

OEM Mopar pumps are now upgrade options on the TB kit.

What are thoughts on Koni Shocks for the Liberty. Should we stock them?

Also - I'm researching having new intercooler hoses made. I know the SAMCO ones are popular but they are pricey. Would an OEM-like replacement that is less expensive be worth the investment?

I have used Koni's for over 10 years on several of my vehicles. I wouldn't mind them as an option for the CRD.

Hey Corey,

I'd like another option for hoses... I recently discovered my turbo-to-inter cooler hose coated in oil again. This was supposedly the oem "upgraded" hose... And it is wet again after I cleaned it inside and out 5 days ago. I had briefly been routing the ccv to the airbox... Not any longer, I'm back to regular EHM.

But it looks like this hose is on its way out again.

The Koni Raid shocks are offered over here and in Europe - TonyCRD has them on his 2.5 and swears by them - says that they are better than the OMEs.
