I have had the same problem with the speedo neadle, it did it for a bit and them started working again. The only different thing is that now my Airbag light is on all the time and my Hood open sign has started up again constantly and so my Car allarm goes off randomly..
The Airbag thing worries me more, does anyone know it there is actually a recall for model up tto 2003 for the Airbag (mine was built October 2002)?
Fil.
There is a recall for 2002 CRDs for airbags going off unexpectedly so you can check with the dealers.
Ideally you need to see which airbag it is complaining about....driver, passenger or side air bags.
If it is the driver air bag then you could need a new clock-spring.
I had an intermittent airbag light coming on.
On our RHD models if you remove the driver side knee panel....pull hard on the panel that you knock your knees on...you will see a cable coming down from the steering boss. This has a yellow connector on it and the connecting wires are, I think:
Orange/Light Blue, Tan/Light Blue, Black/ light Blue, Dark Green/ Light Blue.
I say 'I think" because my circuit diagrams do not show the RHD connection and I am too lazy to check on my Jeep.
This connector had a bad contact inside it...I could get the air bag light to come on by shaking this connector.
I could not fix this bad connector so eventually cut the connectors off and and directly soldedered the wires together.
This connector actually has a small metal plate inside it which shorts out all the connectors on the air bag side together to stop any back EMF setting off the air bag when the plug is pulled apart.
Have a look at this connector and see if the air bag light goes on or off if you move it...otherwise you may need to replace the clock-spring. To be on the safe side, dis-connect your battery, short the positive lead to ground for ten minutes to discharge any capacitors before working on air bag connectors.
Have you shorted out your hood open switch yet?
