My power steering seems to be very slowly losing fluid. It never goes below the min line, but after filling it to the max line over time it goes down.... Thoughts.

Thanks.

Maybe cause you have the same colour JEEP as myself it is a common problem with that colour cause mine does the same thing. My dealer told me that if the leak isn't obvious he would suggest that the fuild is leaking into the rubber boots attached to the steering rack (I think). I haven't gotten under the KJ to confirm cause mine doesn't really leak that fast maybe top it up once or twice a year.

Unfortunately, it is not paint-color related - mine does it too and it is dark green.

You're right, it never goes below the Min line, but I have topped it off twice already in 16 months of ownership. Granted I have put 40,000 miles on it in that time, but that is still odd.

Good thread - I hadn't really thought about seeing if anyone else had that issue.

Me too. Thanks for verification. Any long-term ($$$) ramifications?

Yep check those R&P boots. If fluid is in them you will need a new R&P as there are no seals available to replace them yourself.

What are you using to top off the power steering fluid? It should be ATF+4. Although when I first noticed mine was low I just Turkey bastered it a couple times and kept refilling with Valvoline's synthetic PS fluid no issue since. Been discussed on the General KJ board here.

Blake's on the right track. If you use common PS fluid, it will boil off in hot weather in a remarkably short time. Use ATF+4.

I dropped my front skid to inspect things and found the power steering hose was weeping fluid maybe yours has issues. FYI the hose has been on national back order for over a month! It is being covered under the factory bumper to bumper warranty.

So can somebody clarify for me? Is it paint related? Cause if so that would be amazing. Think about it, a purple jeep may not even need fuel. Or perhaps a nice lavender would never get flat tires. Someone needs to investigate this.
