MAF CEL on so changed MAF sensor by dealer, changed alternator due to bearing going out, EGR CEL came on, turbocharger whistle (had turbo rebuilt-full of oil), changed air filter, bought 4 new tires. Now I am so thankful to find this forum and information on the CRD. I am also very lucky to have gotten home from Arkansas where I purchased the vehicle considering what my friend and I have found since. I've read the NOOBS Guide and information on the common mods on the CRD which I plan to implement asap. So I took off the EGR Air Flow Control Valve and it was caked with soot and oil which was cleaned. The pipe that runs from the EGR Air Flow Control Valve to the manifold looked like this and was completely caked and blocked in the inside underside tubing as shown: The MAP looked like this before cleaning: so far that's where I'm at. Haven't read about the blockage in the line from the EGR Air Flow Control Valve/manifold line as shown. All feedback greatly appreciated! Thanks |

I'd plan on changing the timing belt NOW unless you have incontrovertible evidence that this has been done. While you are there, do the WP and idlers and tensioners. The TB by itself is an moderate job one day job, the WP more involved but still can be done in a day, but replacing rockers is a pain. You may decide to do them anyway while you have most of the stuff out of the way, but YMMV. |

It has been very educational owning this little diesel. Thank you for the feedback and thanks to the forum owner! Yes the timing belt is on the agenda as is getting to the EGR and cleaning that up and changing the fuel filter. Then the EHM. Is a member making those plates to blank off the EGR? Thank you. |

Look into that GDE tune. You'll hear a lot about it, and it does more than prevent that EGR issue. It would be a shame to waste all of that cleaning work... Although on that note, I've had my tune for about 50 k and I would like to know how much soot is in my intake to compare. |

See here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=69265&p=764590#p764590 Unless you have a GDE tune it will throw a CEL. |

See Sir Sam's NOOB guide for a location picture and how to clean. It's held in place by a allen head, forget the size, bolt with a small lock washer and can be removed if you are very careful without removal of the wire harness bolts although doing so certainly makes removal easier. The sensor has an "O" ring so I'd suggest a slight twist while pulling up to remove once the bolt is out. On reinstall a drop of oil on the "O" ring helps with a push/twist to seat and I'd suggest replacing the allen head with a regular hex for future removal ease. |
