On my way to work I want to pass a truck and it revved really high. Then when I got off and stopped at the light it took 30 to start to move. So I pulled in to a lot and saw smoke coming out my dip stick. Any advice on what it is ? I was thinking convert I hope? What the best one to get if it just that? If I have to rebuild the trans anything special I should do ?

Smokey trans, that isn't good. I'm guessing you meant torque converter, those usually won't cause smoking. Dry burnt clutches will though. How's the fluid level and what does the fluid look like? If the level looks good, it might be that the transmissions oil pump failed. Any engine codes?

I'd do a fluid and filter change while checking for a loose accumulator plate. Test drive and see what it does. If it's slow to engage I'd add some Lucas Transmission Fix to buy some time for rebuild prep.

I'm not having a good feeling about this one.

Worst case this shop has rebuilts for $999, if you do the removal/replacement yourself.

You'll want to use a new torque converter too.

Green's trans was rebuilt by them and I'm very happy with their work.

The 1st thing to check is the fluid level, classic thing with a transmission low on fluid is slow or no movement.

The level looked fine but I was on a hill try to look. It smelled brunt I don't know what the code is yet but it has one.

Those don't look like any valid KJ code I've ever seen. For starters they lack the normal letter prefix.

Nobody here to my knowledge has ever posted any trans codes before because none of the scanners other than the MOPAR StarScan will read trans codes on a KJ CRD.

gmctd's code list at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=40073 includes some tranny codes as does the 06 FSM and the 05 KJ Diesel Transmission Manual (printed separately from the 05 FSM). For what it's worth I cannot find any of those codes in those sources. Doesn't mean they are not valid just means I don't find them. Tried Google search with no luck either.

IIRC Sir Sam has the appropriate code reader and perhaps he knows more.

They just called and said it's my tcm. Because it full and it'd shifting right. That there's a service bulletin on the tcm and my trans dates falls inside of it. That I need a new tcm. So do you think I can get it reprogrammed thru green diesel?

I'm confused. Is this a dealer you're talking about? Are they going to give you a new tcm? I wonder if the f37 reprogram became default for new tcm's? In any case, whether you get a new dealer unit or one from a junk yard, it will not need to be reprogrammed. That is if the part number is correct. Visit GDE's site to find out about their TCM tunes.

FWIW, I have a GDE eco-tuned tcm in my closet. Might list it here in the for sale area. PM if interested.

Its at my cousin shop he's looking at it. It does everything it says in the service bulletin about updating the TCM. I was thinking about getting the green diesel TCM anyway
