Rock auto is selling timing belt kits.

Kit Part # QBK761 containing Belt, tensioner, pulleys and seals.

$197.00

Made by KLARIUS/QUINTON HAZELL in the UK, I don't know about reliability, has anyone used them before?

If it is not made by crown or other generic Chinese firm I would say it is worth trying and if it is Brit made then it gotta be good...just my 2 cents cheers happy New Years ....

LOL. . . is this a Matriotic opinion? I agree another parts supplier has got to be good. Flagfox shows an Irish flag for the Klarius Group website.

Yeah!!! British made. it would be interesting in hearing from ppl who used it experiences. My limited is steping on the 92k miles territory and I thing it is time to start thinking about the TB job.

Reading through these forums i know a few guys have used the value based solutions offered by overseas sellers like Jeepatlantika on fleabay and others and integral part of these values have been using timing belts from goodyear instead of gates (no horror stories reported so far and goodyear is not a bad generic brand ) and rollers, tensioners and water pumps made by obscure European Mfg. Now the only confirmed pitfall so far reported is the crown water pump and so it is recommended that you use OE pump which is 200 bucks or so, so by the process of elimination you should be good to go ( just leave that guilty feeling behind that you did not spend big bucks).
Or the other option will be to buy the Gates belts online some people have reported prices in the range of 50-75 bucks get oem water pump and then source rollers and tensioners from these value sellers.
I recently got my TB service done and paid big bucks if i had to do it again i would save about 50% based on the above mentioned plan.

Regarding the Belt..... The Jeep Mechanic said that he would stick with the OEM Goodyear belt, its thickness is compensated in the design.

If the original OEM holds up for 100,000 miles, the replacement OEM Goodyear will do the same.

I see no reason why the Gates one would not do the same thing. I wish we could get the Contitech belts for the CRD here in the US. I have used them on many European applications with great success. The fit and quality is excellent. I know they are available in Europe for the CRD, however, shipping to the US is cost prohibitive.

I would have gone with OEM belt, but $75 for a Gates compared to $218 for OEM seemed unreasonable.
My OEM belt was changed after 7 years and 97k miles. It would easily have lasted longer. Gates is considered good quality and the next belt change interval will not be so long.

Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances.

The Gates are preferred by most. I have never, ever, not once, seen a Gates belt fail (nor a Contitech or Dayco for that matter). Its not the belt that fails, but some other component - water pump, tensioner, roller etc.

I'm doing some digging on this kit and haven't found any useful information on what is specifically included or about fitment - most EU sites list this for the 2.5 diesel, which is similar but I can't find a confirmation for our 2.8s. Plus - try ordering it - 50 bucks for international shipping...

Is it being implied that the Gates belt is more durable in some way then the Goodyear? What option is the absolute best available?

I hope that this does not turn out to be mine is better than your basically if the Goodyear OEM lasted well past 100 k miles then it is good now issue is that it was not available in US till they started showing up in value priced kits from overseas by then people had found a reliable & readily avaiable replacement in gates which could be scored at good deal online now the pitfall of overseas kits has been cheap / obscure Mfg. of water pumps and other items included case in point Crown water pumps.
So you are free to choose either and do more due diligence in what you are getting for your money.

Price. Both are fine for our application. I'd prefer Gates over the Goodyear... why? Just look at the Goodyear tires we had stock on our CRD's. I realize that the Goodyear tires and belts are different... but I would personally rather a Gates belt. Again, either belt, Gates or Goodyear, are fine. Contitech, Dayco, etc. would also be fine, I am sure. No reported of early failures due to a poor belt design. Come to think of it, I have never seen or heard of an early failure on any timing belt due to a poor quality. Only age and/or mileage.

It contains the belt, tensioner and 2 idlers of unknown origin.

There is also a Gates kit K015586XS which I think is compatible. Do your own research and see if you come to the same conclusion as me.

While not specifically listed under the CRD section RockAuto do stock it for $164.
