Here is a link identifying its usage and results in a variety of diesels:
http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums ... hp?t=91630

A google search will reveal a lot positive results in the HEUI powerstrokes. I use it myself in my powerstroke with significantly improved starting and engine smoothness.

Thinking about trying a bottle in the CRD to boost the wear additive levels.

Here is a dyno test on it:

Anyone ever try this or run add packs for wear reduction?

Thoughts?

Just use a quality GroupIV basestock (PAO) motor oil designed for diesel engines and no additives are necessary, required, or recommended.

Many of these so called Super Lube products have come and gone over the years. Hyper advertising and infomercials generated huge sales then products virtually disappeared. Some info about DuraLube:

The company along with several others including Valvoline Engine Treatment, Slick 50 Engine Treatment, STP Engine Treatment, and Motor Up Corporation, was investigated by the Federal Trade Commission in 1999-2000 and was found to have no competent or reliable evidence substantiating these claims about its performance.[5]In March 2000, Dura Lube and competitor Motor Up both settled Federal Trade Commission charges that performance claims for their engine treatments were deceptive and unsubstantiated. The two settlements barred false and unsubstantiated claims about the performance, benefits, efficacy, or attributes of these products. In addition, As one of several industry companies penalized by the FTC, Dura Lube paid $2 million in consumer redress to be distributed by the FTC. The FTC had previously halted allegedly deceptive ads for Prolong Engine Treatment, Valvoline Engine Treatment, Slick 50 Engine Treatment and STP Engine Treatment.[6]

Understood on the plethora of snake oils out there, but in this case there are significant amount of reports of documented improvements. Many diesels shops will recommend this additive who also will recommend no other.
Many additives claim increased power to the wheels but few can back it up with an independent dyno test.

My first choice would always be oil formulation, but it is true that low SAPS oils have caused wear issues and that increasing the ppms of critical wear additives that were removed could have benefits. Amsoil markets their Euro 5w-40 line as a FULL SAPS oil for a reason.

When I purchased my '05 Liberty CRD used in 2007 with 17,500 miles on the clock I went against the grain a bit and installed the Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 diesel motor oil along with the bypass filter. I now have 90+K miles on the clock and getting ready to do the TB replacement in the spring. The reason I chose this oil was for the excellent low wear, durability, and longevity of the oil all based on oil analysis on my 2001 Dodge Ram Cummins. I also had the bypass oil filter system on this truck. In addition, the lower viscosity did provide a slight improvement in MPG. I drove this truck as a daily driver and towed my 10K lb. fifth wheel camper around the country in temps as high as 107* in TX, AZ, NM and sub-zero temps here in NEPA where I live.

I have not done oil analysis on the Jeep, just changed the oil and bypass filter every other year and the full flow oil filter yearly. The reason I chose not to do OA on the CRD was due to the 100K drain intervals I was experiencing with the 5W-30 HDD in the Ram and thought 25K in the CRD oil was a walk in the park. Discussions with another member on this forum has prompted me to do a sample soon (there will be almost 2 years and 22K miles on the oil) to compare OA data from his CRD. He is using the Amsoil 5W-40 European Full SAPS oil.

I poured 4 oz. of the REV X in my CRD a few days ago and have been driving it to activate the additive with normal operating engine temps. Over the last few days we did not plug the block heater in to see if the additive provided a lubricant film on the metal (as advertized) that could be noticed on cold starts. My son and I both can tell a definite difference in the time it takes to fire on a cold start. The motor cranks faster being pre-lubed, which causes a faster fire, and then the idle smooths out quickly during warm up.

For what ever its worth--the combination of running a Euro oil formulation (5w-40 Castrol Edge SPT) and REV X definately makes a difference on cold engine starts and the smoothness of idle during warm-up. It sounds significantly different from last winter with cold starts using Rotella T6 5w-40. Based on how the CRD sounded last winter I can't help but think the current formula is reducing wear on cold starts. I would think the REV X would also help the turbo start-up on cold mornings also, as it is also advertized to do.

I am not much of a believer in oil additives and generally believe the right spec oil should be used that already have the proper additives, but I also know that SAPS wear minerals have been removed from oil for no other reason than to work with CATs and DPFs and so the addition of these minerals through an add pack should be a good thing. The older Euro oil formulations still have some of these minerals in their oil which helps give the proper lubrication these diesels were designed around. I also know that REV X has made a significant difference in cold starts on my powerstroke and many other powerstrokes. The idea of having pre-lubed parts on a cold start appeals to me. I have no intention of running this additive in the summer.

I simply share this for whatever it may be worth. If you are happy with how your CRD starts on cold mornings, or if you always have it plugged in, then this product may not be of any benefit. However even though you may plug in the CRD when you drive it out on a cold day or on a trip you are faced with some cold starts. I never liked the idea of needing mutliple tries to start it on a cold morning on a trip, and hoping the battery holds on till it starts, and then listening to that warm-up clatter. I'll take the fast start and the smoother warm up. YMMV.
