Mods
Custom pvc valve oil collection system that vents into turbo intake
stage 2 turbo from gde
gde trans tune
full synthetic oil used with extra large high micron filter
new fuel filter system
new map sensor
new 3" exhaust

:dead:

I have white and blue smoke.
My engine overheated bad (drove over a mountain pass for 30 min with engine hot maxed out gauge) over a couple of months and it started to blow white smoke bad. After doing a flush and putting new fluid little by little it started to stop consuming radiator fluid and now is not burning water. Just recently it started to spew a lot of oil into the pvc collector and blowing gray blue smoke. It blows smoke on idle, and when turbo spooling under 1850 rpms. After that it clears up and goes away, but comes back when at idle.

Ive also notices that theres a lot of blow bye. If I move the dipstick out about a 1/8 of an inch it start to push itself out then spits out oil and gray oily mist.

This is the history. I bought it and the day I buy it I get into a wreck (truck driver drops driveshaft in the middle of the road)that brakes the front diff and breaks the pan. It idled for 30 secs with out any oil since it dumped it on the road. I bought it with 145k it had a new water pump belt and timing job done. Ive been afraid that fragment might have done some damage with might be what im seeing now. Running with out oil might explain why the upgraded turbo doesn't seem to have added power.

My question :

Some blow by is normal on diesel but how do you know what is too much? Is a compression test the only way to figure the wear of the engines bottom? And if I check map pressure at idle it should tell me the wear of the cams or rockers right?

Why would you drive for 30 min's if your engine was over heating?

What he said. But yeah, I would say your rings are stuck or sticking as a result of overheating. I have seen this quite often on diesels, mainly VW diesels. This thing sounds like it has been severely abused and has lived a hard life (no offense). It is time for a rebuild or a replacement engine.

yes i have, but no documents. took a month to get parts ended up getting pistons and sleeves from vm motori out of michigian the rest of parts got from mopar online. the engine is like working on a swiss watch, i done alot of cat v12, so i figured this would not be that hard alot more challenging!!!

what did it cost you to rebuild it?

I got news for ya: you probably also need a head gasket and close inspection of the head for cracks. Overheating tends to do both to this engine.

Sounds like a complete tear down and rebuild with new liners etc. Unless you can do the work yourself the labor charges will kill you. It might be worth it to try and source another used/wreck engine to drop in and go from there, assuming it could be found. Otherwise part it out, if there is anything worth selling.

the rebuild cost me 4,000 including new turbo, machined head cut counter bores ,and reshimmed liners the amount i took off head used same thickness head gasket.

In your list of mod's I don't see a Hayden fan clutch and a 11 blade nylon fan that may have stopped the problem in it's tracks especially if it's a 2005
