Hey guys....I was thinking about this and started wondering. In a true SHTF scenario would our CRD run on straight used motor oil if it were filtered well enough and poured in the gas tank (this is all hypothetical thinking. I am in no way thinking of actually trying it ![]() ![]() Jim |

Probably but - not very well - and it'll smoke a lot doing it. but it I think it will. |

Interesting. I was wondering if the motor oil would make it through the fuel lines and the fuel filter and into the engine. Also....I was wondering if the injectors would even spray the motor oil as fuel. Jim |

There is a lot of additives in motor oil that causes issues when it is used as a fuel. Years ago when I had a repair shop, I heated with waste oil. My burner had to be pulled and have the rocks that formed from the oil additives cleaned out every few weeks. With the high price of our CP3 and injectors, I would not risk it. One kind of oil you can add to your fuel to protect your CP3 is TW3 2cycle oil. |

It should run OK, in a pinch. I have poured used motor oil into the tank on my Mercedes 350SDL (1991) and it ran just fine (but for really plugging up the secondary fuel filter). You need to get the oil pretty clean; probably need a centrifuge to get it clean enough. It will probably run on used tranny fluid too, once all the clutch dust is removed. But, I would only go there in my Jeep in a true SHTF situation where I had to get out of Dodge. Check out some of the gallery items at http://simplecentrifuge.com/index.html |

I can tell you first hand that it will not run on 100% WMO. Won't start, won't run. @80% it will just barely start with a hot engine and starting fluid, LOTS of smoke. It'll run down the highway pretty well on 30% but smokes a little at idle. I only did it for experimentation and had issues with the additives causing deposits on the turbo vanes which had to be WOTed frequently. |

Run..??? Run...Good= NO Mixing would be better, but anything more than a pint or two per tank of diesel may cause injector issues. Synthetic oils do not burn as well. I see no benefit, your only asking for trouble. |

I would suspect it would not be good for the pump. Due to the fact used engine oil is a good deal thicker than diesel. You might get away with some form of blend. If in a doomsday scenario to make your diesel supply go further. |
