Went by the book and had the timing belt & water pump replaced at 100,000 mi at Dallas Dodge.
This morning I was driving to work and the engine started missing. Long story short, had it towed to the Jeep dealership, in Fort Worth and was called this afternoon and they said a rocker bearing probably went out. The mechanic said its probably due to a bearing failure and most likely didn't have anything to do with the timing belt, since it had been driven 3,000 miles since it was replaced without a problem.
He said it would take 5 hrs of labor to find out if in fact it was a timing belt problem and they would work with me warranty wise if it was. $3,000.00 min for rocker work and another $2,000 dollars if their cam scaring.

At this point I,m out $1400 for the timing belt & water pump, $90 for their diagnoses, and another $200
in towing charges.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

3000 miles, just seems awfully suspicious. I could see the summation that a rocker bearing went out, considering I don't see that you have the EGR Disabled and the mileage.

Try to get it under warranty, $3000 for rocker work is ridiculous. You can buy the parts for ~$400, why is labor $2600?

Your rockers are going to be worn at that mileage, so they may have you there if you're not standing with them the whole time, and who has time for that?

I still don't know why the timing belt interval in Australia/England on these CRD's is 62,000 Miles and ours says 100,000 Miles...

I guess who the hell would buy one here knowing it's 62,000 miles, they figured they could get away with it, warranty on most was only 3/36 then, alas I rant...

Did a CEL come on? You could have just been in Limp-Home mode and they're trying to stab your booty as they're known to do.

Hell I would almost drive out there for $5000 to do Rocker/Cam work, rofl!

Calm down, take a deep breath, and wait, more answers/thoughts will come here as well.

My feelings exactly.

Probably just sell as is. Never been in an accident, no dents, garaged, almost looks new. Its a shame.
Poor product produced by a like company.

If it is rockers, then it should cost nowhere near that amount to repair. There are folks on the board here who can help replace them. The parts can be had for a reasonable price. Keep us posted!

When my GP broke in my head, and we found the bad rockers, even at the higher price before Corey got his cheaper supplier, my whole job cost less than 5K...and I had a lot of work done.

Assuming it is rockers IIRC there are a couple of members just down the road in Austin that have done rockers.

that's right, I've done the rockers! so has turbo bill, it's really not all that hard. if you want to see what it looks like, look me up on google plus - galatron or harlan stanley I've got three pins and know how, thanks to turbobill, to make a tool that can help wrench off the cam wheels.

rockers are $400 for a whole set of 16, which I would go ahead and do, used cam/holder is not hard to get hold of either. save the used good rockers for spares. It's a long day to do the whole thing the first time with the right tools, and most of the time is getting all the other stuff out of the way, just a bit more work than a TB job. experience helps.

No reason to let a minor problem ruin your enjoyment of a fun ride. Good luck!

I did my rockers. Its not a hard job, just takes time. Get everything out if the way. Biggest part is taking the wiring harness loose from the passenger side and moving it to the drivers side. You also need pins to get the intake on correctly. There is a tool P/N, But you can make them from long bolts. Just cut off the heads and grind in a slot.

Be sure to look at the cam lobes, as the rockers get worn the cam contacts the side of the rockers and damages the lobes.

You can order the rockers for much less than that from the VM Specialist in the UK.

If you go onto the Australian Liberty forums you can find out the info as they seem to be buying VM engine parts from the UK these days.

What you need to consider is that the vehicle is made in the US, but the engines are not.
