Post subject: | Oil leaking from Camshaft sensor |
Been a while since I had any Question on my CRD. The info on LOST great.. I have had signs of an oil leak since the summer. I traced the leak to the top of the motor. Oil is bubbling from around the Crankshaft sensor. My Jeep seems to be running fine. There is also oil around the CCV or the Relief Valve. My question is, can I just replace the o-ring on the crankshaft sensor? Dose it just unbolt, is it easy to replace. I ordered the CCV-Relief Valve and o-rings for the crank shaft sensor from the dealership. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Thanks, bhooter.. |

Good to see someone close by. I'm confused, the post title says camshaft sensor but the text says crankshaft sensor. Do you mean the crankshaft sensor (PN 5066882AA) located on the lower rear passenger side of the engine and hidden behind a heatshield. If so it's held on by one bolt once you get the heat shield off and replacing the "O" ring should be no problem. Or do you mean what the parts manual calls the camshaft sensor (PN 5140332AA) which is actually the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor located on the top of the engine back toward the firewall; see the first image on Sam's NOOB guide at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=54207 . If so it's held in place by an allen head bolt and has a tiny lock washer which is easily dropped but not critical as long as you don't drop it into the engine. Removal can be done without loosening the top of the engine wiring harness but doing so helps. If you do remove the MAP sensor it will need cleaning per the NOOB guide and be careful not to get the black goop on anything you don't want perminently stained black. Either way I have a nice little rounded dental pick that is wonderful for lifting off an old "O" ring; lightly oil the new "O" ring and it should just pop right on; apply a drop more oil to the "O" ring once it's on the sensor and insert the sensor into its seat with a slight twisting motion to slid it into place; reinstall hold down bolt. |

Sorry about the (typo)! It is the Camshaft Sensor, right behind the CCV-Relief valve on the top of the motor. The way it has been dripping, I thought it was the rear main seal. I have pull off the CCV for cleaning. I know that is easy to remove, but I had no clue about the Camshaft sensor. What I don't know, is the Camshaft sensor starting to fail or is the O-ring just wore out? I'm wondering if I should have ordered another sensor? Thanks, bshooter.. |

Still not quite sure what sensor you are refering too although that may not matter much. Can you ID which one in the 05 or 06 parts manuals Figure 8-615. Whatever it is the most likely cause for a leak is the "O" ring. |

I ordered Part #0511348AB {relief valve} and O-ring #0511437AA. The Camshaft Sensor part # 05140332AA I did not order and its o-ring part #05066860AA I did order in hopes the sensor is OK.. I have an 06 CRD Limited. It has bee leaking for a while and now I can see oil bubbles coming from around the base of the sensor. Only strange things happen to me ![]() ![]() |

I think it has a small hold down bolt. Remove it and pull up, change the o-ring. |

Yes Sir, the parts should be here Wed. I hope that will take care of it. Then I'll find something else to pick on...bshooter |
